I received this netbook a few weeks ago and wanted to wait a few weeks to write a review in case any problems came up. Needless to say this is the first computer that has actually being a pleasure to set up. Everything is already done for you and you simply make a few decisions during the initial set up process and you're away.

Not being a gamer I've actually used this netbook to replace my PC and it has been working fine running the likes of Spotify, Firefox, Microsoft Office and downloading all at once. Setting it up to run using a large monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse hasn't been a problem and the change in speed between this and my old PC is hardly noticeable.

The keyboard and touchpad are a pleasure to use, although getting used to a slightly smaller keyboard takes a bit of practice! The 3 USB ports are conveniently located (2 on 1 side 1 on the other). As I mentioned the speed has been great and the speakers perform better than my larger portable ones. The battery life appears good although I've mostly been running it off the mains. The wireless internet connection has been perfect and far better than my previous PC which had an external aerial.

It even came with a 1 year free trail of Microsoft Office which I was unaware of, oh and it's close to silent when it's switched on. I'd love to pick a fault with this laptop but for running the usual programmes like I-Player, Firefox, Spotify and Microsoft Office its perfect, even when connected up to a separate keyboard and screen it shows no sign of slowing.

If this is what you're looking for then buy it!

I have had the Samsung N140 now for several weeks and am very pleased with it. The best way to describe it is as a deluxe version of the NC-10. The first thing that strikes you on opening it up is how different it looks from both the NC-10 and N110 : it has a good-quality, superbright non-glossy wide screen which looks far more chic than its predecessors; the silver edges give it an expensive-looking appearance and it seems stronger than the NC-10 as well as being more lightweight and without the finger-smudging problem. It has a fabulous 6-cell battery that SAMSUNG claims might be able to last for up to 11 hours. This is something of an exaggeration, but you should be able to get around 7+ hours out of it and more if you upgrade it to a 9-cell one. Its wifi is the best currently on the market since it can cope with b, g and also N. It has quite good speakers for its size and easily copes with BBC iplayer and their equivalents. Its RAM memory is 800MHz and not 667MHZ as you find on the NC-10. It should therefore be faster. However, you would be advised to upgrade it to 2Gb as there are times when it can appear slow. When you are in battery mode, the power settings are set to maximise battery life which means a reduction in performance which can lead to problems when watching online TV. However, you can resolve the problem by changing the power options to normal or even maximum performance. The battery life is long even when on maximum performance in my experience. I am very satisfied with my netbook and made the right choice in buying this one after waiting so long for a proper non-glossy, fast-wifi model to appear on the market and voilà, here it is.

the n140 is amazing and so much more than I expected for the price.
It is tiny - not bigger or thicker than a book - but it has a good keyboard and a very clear matte screen. The charger is much smaller than on our other laptops. The battery seems to last a long time - I haven't yet tried how long. The n140 is very easy to set up. It arrived yesterday; after charging the battery I managed to be on the internet via our home wifi within an hour.
there is a decent amount of software included: microsoft office (for 1 year i believe).
There is a neat little card reader on the front; I plugged the card from my camera in and could immediately watch my photos without further fuss.

The bag that comes with the netbook is a nice neoprene type bag, so no need to rush and buy another one.

What I liked less: the netbook comes with a cd with drivers' software but the n140 has no cd drive?! Samsung needs to rethink that and give the software on a card if that is possible.

Although the netbook is not slow at all, i think i will increase the ram memory from 1gb to 2gb, as this doesn't cost much and might improve the performance. unfortunately i couldn't find the n140 on the crucial website.
i suppose i will have to wait until they include it.

Initially, the fonts on the screen were much too small; I managed to solve this partially; some text still appears in tiny letters, such as the n140 manual available on the desktop.

At first the speakers didn't work. I tried looking for help on the Samsung website but that didn't work. Eventually, the speakers woke up after I reset them a few times.

My only real criticism of the n140 is its touchpad, which is tiny, recessed and the click areas at the bottom are hard to control.

I've been looking for a small sub-£300 netbook for ages and finally settled on the Samsung N140 - running XP Home (rather than limited functionality of Windows 7 Starter). Really pleased with it - the 10.1" screen size is great, although the resolution of 1024 x 600 is a little poor - it would be better if it was like the Sony equivalent W series which runs at 1366 x 768. However this is just a small niggle - rather than anything really to worry about. Besides, the battery life of the N140 is truly excellent - and significantly better than the VPCW12S1E/W (N140 = 9hours and Sony = 7.5hours). I'm just using for websurfing, Itunes and running remote desktop to connect to my work PC - and for all this it is ideal. Just to confirm that Bluetooth is included too. It also comes with a soft case which was good as these sorts of things are normally pricey extras! I would certainly recommend the N140!
