Anyway having been married for 38 years we know each other well enough to admit our mistakes and come clean. I returned the Nexus and bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S and having had it for a week I can only say its FAN-TAS-TIC.
Its everything I wanted in a 10” tablet: Its light weight and super thin yet seems strong enough to survive the knocks of everyday life.
It has a sharp bright display that can be viewed from any angle, the sound is amazing considering the size of the small speakers. I have twinned mine to a Bluetooth wireless headphone and its great to watch movies on. I have also fitted a 64Gb micro SDHC card loaded with 40+ movies which should keep me entertained when I lose WIFI.
The Titanium bronze trim looks the business (very smart). Apps all work seamlessly and the speed of downloads and browsing is all very smooth, presumably due to the octa-core processer and the 3Gb Ram.
The on-screen keyboard looks sharp and the short vibrate when a key is pressed gives a very nice positive feedback.
As far as battery life is concerned mine tends to last a couple of days, before it needs re-charging - but of course it depends very much on usage.
I would like to see a 32Gb or even 64Gb model available and I guess that will come in the future. With the ability to be able to fit a 128Gb SHCD card and being able to load (some) Apps onto the SDHC Card perhaps its not too much of a problem.
I have bought a MoKo Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Case which is reasonably priced, fits well, protects the tablet (as expected) and looks very smart.
I thoroughly recommend this Samsung Galaxy Tab S Tablet it really is a step up from previous Tablets – buy it and you won’t be disappointed.
My wife and family are all Apple iPad users and I looked hard at numerous iPads and many other Android tablets before purchasing the Samsung Galaxy Tab S. My main use is for reading books and magazines while travelling, saving me having to carry the heavy printed copies, which I used to do very regularly. I also wanted this for occasional web browsing, reviewing photographs and watching the odd downloaded iPlayer programme.
These are the things that persuaded me to buy the Galaxy Tab S 10.5:
- thin and light but still feels solid to hold; very comfortable when using for reading
- stunning screen quality; this has to be the best tablet screen currently on the market
- format of iPad is squarer whereas this has a wider perspective, which for me is better when reading books in portrait orientation and more natural when watching videos in normal landscape mode
- Interface neat and intuitive
- takes a micro sd card up to 128gb, which works seamlessly since I have added one to the tablet
- looks great; I have the darker model which looks very striking with the bronze trim
- much better value than the equivalent iPad spec
Only a week in and I am loving using this tablet. A nice feature of the (on screen) keyboard is the positive feedback you get as you type, through a short vibration on each keystroke confirming that you have entered each character. The 8 Mp camera produces some pretty usable images with reasonable file sizes.
I also purchased the Mulbess Case Cover for £16.99 from Amazon. Very good quality and fits the Tab S like a glove, with cut-outs in all the right places to allow access to the various controls around the edge of the device. Much better value than Samsung's own covers and I would recommend taking a look at it.
Overall, really happy with my Galaxy Tab S 10.5.
If you're new to android (as I am) it takes a little while to familiarise yourself with the os and where to find stuff, but after a day 'playing' I'm pretty much there.
In buying this tablet I also considered a windows tab and of course apple.
The big positives for me of the Samsung over the iPad are a slightly bigger and really excellent quality screen (probably the best on the market at the moment, or so I've read), and importantly the ability to expand the memory to 128gb via the expandable sd card slot. You'll have to buy this separately, but the cost of a 128gb sd card plus the cost of the tablet is still over £200 cheaper than the equivalent iPad at the time of writing. So far ive not noticed that the google play store is materially lacking in apps, games etc. Compared to the itunes store. The same cannot be said for the windows store equivalent, which is why I opted for the android.
I also sense that the Samsung will more easily interact with other non-android/samsung devices, something that apple devices prohibit largely (by design). As I have no other apple devices, this was also a contributing factor in my decision...
So far so good...
