A slim lens that delivers all the details
Ultra-compact, ultra-light, and ultra-powerful: the Samsung 16 mm lens preserves the slim profile of the NX series. In fact, its slim size makes it the perfect general-purpose lens for photo buffs who need flexibility and portability. Whether you're walking around downtown or out in the country, you can capture incredibly beautiful cityscapes or landscapes in a variety of conditions.
Fastest lens in its class
It's stylish and compact, but more than that, the Samsung 16mm pancake lens is one fast lens. Actually, it's the fastest of any ultra-wide compact system camera lens, thanks, in part, to its F/2.4 aperture. And its fast shutter speed lets you capture sharper images in low-light settings - even without a tripod. Ideal for wide landscapes, it also lets you create dramatic background blur effects for images that truly stand out.

I was sufficiently curious about this lens to request a very short-term loan (about 10 minutes) from a dealer in order to shoot a few test shots. They did not have the 16mm in stock as a unique product but did have one as part of a kit with one of the compact NX models. In fact, I was able to borrow all three pancakes in turn for a similar period, but one at a time. My kit zoom served as a deposit! When subsequently viewing the images, I quickly realised that the shorter the focal length the slightly less satisfactory each lens was.Read more ›
Tip: With Samsung NX cameras, shoot RAW+JPEG. The JPEG's can be used straight out of the camera if you just want quick and easy, but if you want to get the most detail out of your pictures process RAW's as follows. Convert the Samsung RAW .srw files to lossless ,dng using Adobe DNGConverter (free). Then use Adobe Lightroom, Elements or Photoshop (all available as free 30 day trials) to process the .dng images. This gives much better results that using Samsung's own Camera NX software.
