It's early days yet but I've got a feeling that this box on it's own might end up replacing my other media solutions, including the Chromecast and Boxee. Oh and it also plays Blu-rays, who knew? :)
Would highly recommend.
As some others noted, this device lacks Optical Digital Audio out and only offers Coaxial Digital Out and HDMI. This is not a problem nowadays as most Surround Sound Receivers offer HDMI input. Also, there is no analogue SCART or Composite connection. However this is a HD Blu Ray player and those connections have been superseded by HDMI for HD formats.
Really impressed by this bit of kit for the £45 it cost me when purchased through Amazon. Better than the £200 Blu Ray player on my main television.
Setup was very simple, it ran through a short setup process for language, etc, and auto-detected the TV type and size (also Samsung). A firmware update was automatically downloaded and installed over the internet connection. All very easy.
The power cable is captive, which is pretty rare these days, so I had a tricky time feeding the power plug through the cable slots I have in my media unit.
I tried the Netflix and Amazon apps, both worked well with good quality images.
When it worked it was simply brilliant. Picture on DVD and BluRay is awesome. But the sound is the real star. The clarity of the sound is lovely. Speech is so clear and the action is spread around with good clarity, especially at low volume I have some live concerts on DVD and they sound so so much better played with this than on my Xbox 360 or my laptop. The sound is as good as my expensive Creative soundcard in my desktop.
Youtube is very good, didn't use the other apps. This has a closed browser too so you're not going on the internet with it, just browsing through a load of preset apps.
Amazon video is there though. The firmware was upto date already when I checked.
It's small and light, indeed pushing the BluRay tray closed requires 2 hands, one to gently push and one to hold the unit in place as the whole thing moves back.
If you want to take a gamble on the reliability then this has really good performance BUT I can't recommend it. The four stupid unlit touch controls on the top never seem to respond and there is no other eject button to fall back on elsewhere, either on the remote or on the front.
The player itself is neat, slim and very light, so it can easily sit on top of other units (sky boxes, games consoles etc.) without any issues. It can be a little noisy to load but is otherwise silent, and the quality is excellent. The only problem I found is that the enter button on the remote is half the size of the home button, and twice I've accidentally pressed the home button and returned to the player menu in the middle of a movie. You do get used to it though.
I'm a little disappointed I don't get to make use of the extra features such as Netflix as the player doesn't come with built in wifi and my router is miles away, but I notice there is a USB outlet so I'm not sure if I could use a dongle to overcome it. I'd also read it may be possible to use a Sky wireless connector, but as there's only one ethernet port you'd have to disconnect certain Sky services (obviously I'm not very technologically minded, so forgive my ignorance if this isn't the case). I did, however, know there was no inbuilt wifi when I purchased, so I can hardly describe it as a negative given the price.
Overall it is an excellent little player and really good value when you consider all the extra features. Would definitely recommend.
