Product Description

Product Description

Samsung 840 EVO SSD

Enjoy High Performance

The Samsung SSD 840 EVO is a high-performance SSD designed for power users. Capable of delivering up to 98,000 IOPS Random Read Speed and 540MB/s Sequential Read speed, it is an SSD of unrivaled high performance. Even better, the advanced MEX controller delivers these speeds regardless of data type, unlike some competing controllers that greatly favour compressible data.

TurboWrite
Boost your write speed with Samsung TurboWrite technology.
Switch to a higher gear
Magician software gives you the option of RAPID mode.
Always be in High Acceleration

Thanks to Samsung TurboWrite technology, Samsung SSD 840 EVO can deliver much faster sequential write speeds compared to the previous model -- up to tripling the speed from 130 to 410MB/s in 120 GB drives, and doubling it from 250 to 520MB/s in 250 GB drives.

Switch to a High Gear for Rapid Performance

Like changing gears in a car, with Magician software you have the option of RAPID mode, enhancing performance by processing data on a system level through the use of free PC memory (DRAM) as a cache. Depending on your PC memory, you can expect high performance and more efficient command processing, which improves with repeated tasking.

Keep your data safe
Self Encrypting Drive (SED) security technology helps keep your data safe.
Dynamic Thermal Guard protection
Dynamic Thermal Guard protection monitors the temperature of your SSD.
Consistent Reliability

Shocks, vibrations, high temperatures -- bring it on. Equipped with Advanced Signal Processing, Samsung SSD 840 EVO automatically corrects errors so you'll worry less about your data's stability. Plus, using Samsung Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART), you can track your SSD's health status. SMART warns you of any unforeseen errors before they occur, so you'll be prepared.

Samsung's Dynamic Thermal Guard protection monitors the temperature of the SSD, preventing it from overheating. When the SSD is exposed to extreme temperatures, the algorithm controls the SSD's power supply to keep it cool. Plus, with Samsung SSD 840 EVO your PC becomes lighter, meaning you can carry it around with you.

Samsung 840 EVO SSD
Add style to your PC.
Rock-solid Encryption to Secure Your Data

Samsung 840 EVO Self Encrypting Drive (SED) security technology will help keep your data safe at all times. The drive is included an AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption engine to ensure that your personal files remain secure -- even if you lose your laptop.

Energy Efficient

Enjoy doing more of what you love on your computer for longer. Samsung 840 EVO SSD features low idle power consumption. This is important because PCs spend 80 to 90 per cent of their time sitting idle. The drive promotes energy savings and longer battery life.

Simple Tools for an Easy Upgrade

Using a SATA-to-USB 3.0 connector provided in the laptop upgrade package, for a data size of 100 GB, you can migrate all the data from your HDD to 840 EVO in just 24 minutes. The Auto Install guide included in the toolkit will guide you smoothly through the installation process.

Add Style to Your PC

Samsung 840 EVO SSD uses both structural engineering and C-cutting to diamond-cut the premium titan surface, for a sleek and stylish appearance. Watch your PC become reborn with a premium look that expresses its powerful performance.

My computer had 5 x 1TB HDD and was running Windows 8, took ages to start up (approx 5 mins), after I fitted the Samsung 840 Evo the computer now boots in just over 15 second, it is simply amazing. The Wizard software made copying my existing hard disk with OS on over to the Samsung a doddle. Highly recommend anyone who has not switched to an SSD card to buy a Samsung SSD Card,

It was a pleasure to see that it had all the right mounting for my Mac Book pro. The speed difference is just amazing. That was the 3rd Mac by the way I upgraded to SSD and just love it. Dont forget to enable trim otherwise you are not getting the full benefit of your ssd. http://www.cindori.org/software/trimenabler/ is a great app that is free unless you opt for the fancy package that is not really needed. Enable the automatic start and your set to always have trim enabled. OSX only activates trim on SSDs by itslef if it is an apple SSD. So you need a 3rd party app to do that.

Before tossing away your laptop you might want to consider upgrading the HDD to SSD. It could work out as a much cheaper alternative.

Pros:
+ Lightning fast drive
+ Super easy installation
+ Light on batteries (laptop users)
+ Much cheaper than buying a new computer!
+ "Samsung Magician" software works great for firmware updates and SSD optimization.
+ MacBook Pro compatible.

Cons:
- Samsung recommends turning off indexing for reliability. This has a huge impact speed when searching for files from the "Search programs or files" or messages in Outlook.

Considerations:
1. In order to use the drive to its full potential, AHCI Mode must be enabled in the bios and motherboard should support SATA 3. Yet the speed increment is still very noticeable even on SATA 2 motherboards.
2. I would recommend the largest SSD you can afford due to numerous reasons: one of these is a feature called "Over Provisioning": A part of the SSD itself is used for this option thus decreasing the physical size of the disk (Primary Partition)whilst increasing the speed even further. The software itself says Quote "Over Provisioning (OP) optimizes the performance and lifespan of your SSD" unquote. Another valid reason is that the larger the disk, there is less chance of read write on the same sector, thus increasing the lifespan of your drive.
Time will tell how reliable this very fast drive will last. I have selected not to turn off indexing as I need to search for files quite often.

SSD technology is the future, and these drives will improve and prices will continue to decrease in the future.

Bottom line: If you need a fastest SSD to date, than the Samsung Evo is the way to go

Worked perfectly from day . W& transferred over with no problems and now the operating systems is like quick silver. The other knock-on effect besides the super speed is less power draw on the power supply so less electrical and mechanical (due to no moving parts) noise in the system. I care about such things as I use the PC for high quality music play back and hi def films. I've had it working several years now, with no problems whatsoever. Very big upgrade

Having seen my brothers and father suffer HDD failures on their new laptops, I decided it was time to change the original seagate drive in my 2009 Dell Inspiron 1545 for this SSD.
I experienced some difficulties with the software at first, but quickly figured out where I had gone wrong.
After the data migration had been completed, I swapped the old drive for the Evo.
All I can say is, phenomenal! The difference is almost unbelievable!
Just make sure if you get one, you use the spacer provided.

Really pleased with the SSD although it took a while to install. The kit had all the hardware and the Samsung supplied software to clone the old HDD but after trying several times the Samsung Ultrabook failed to reboot after installation.
I got great email support off the Samsung SSD team. They made several suggestions but in the end I took the HDD out of the machine and used an external SATA docking station plus Samsung's USB SATA adapter connected to my other laptop. I then did a straight clone of the HDD onto the SSD. When I installed the SSD it worked! The only issue after that was a lost license on my accounts software (Quickbooks). This was because QB encrypts the license code and my cloning software could not copy encrypted files. A quick call to QB support helped me to re-register my accounts.
The SSD itself has worked perfectly since installation. It is very fast, much faster than I am used to and so far it has been completely reliable. Overall, very pleased. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because the transfer kit didn't work 'out of the box'.
