Product Description

Product Description

The Samsung 45mm mid-telephoto prime lens was specially developed to help you capture portraits and still-life shots that are alive with emotion. Thanks to its bright and large F1. 8 aperture, it delivers sharp details even in low light, while naturally blurring the background for vivid contrast. You can also shoot video silently thanks to its smooth and silent autofocus. Even though its crafted from solid metal, the lens is still lightweight and compact, so you can take it with you anywhere.
Take pictures that lovingly express the joy of a wedding or capture the glee on the face of a birthday girl, with the Samsung 45mm mid-telephoto prime lens. Its large F1.8 aperture enables fast shooting for excellent performance, even in low-lit settings. And its circular 9-blade diaphragm helps produce a shallow depth of field with bokeh that creates a sense of wonder. Thanks to superb sharpness and high contrast, you will enjoy foreground images with little to no distortion and backgrounds with a smooth, creamy blur.
While you cannot always demand quiet on the set, you can shoot high-quality video or snap crisp photos without the distracting whir of a noisy autofocus. The Samsung 45mm mid-telephoto prime lens uses a high-performance micro-stepping motor to ensure quiet operation. Because the action is smoother, picture-taking feels more natural. And when you play back your video, your audience will be able to focus on the sights and sounds you intended, not noise from your lens.
Shoot like a professional while traveling like a tourist. The pocket-sized Samsung 45mm mid-telephoto prime lens weighs a mere 115 grams for easy portability, even when you are carrying several other lightweight and compact NX lenses. You will always be prepared for a perfect-and completely spontaneous-portrait moment.
While you may be a professional photographer, the solid metal body of the 45mm lens makes you feel like one. Its made with a metal mount that's perfect for shutterbugs who are tough on their cameras. As an i-Function lens, it offers excellent usability for more precise operation, with an AF/MF switch and a one-touch button that lets you intuitively adjust shutter speed, aperture and ISO settings.

The lens comes with a solid, non-reversible screw-on lens hood which almost doubles the lens' effective length, but it is an essential when shooting into the light as, with several others from Samsung, the front element is rather far forward and otherwise unshaded and it is then prone to flare. With the hood, flare almost ceases to be a problem. A soft pouch is included, although it is unpadded and offers little additional protection.

The definition offered by this lens came as another pleasant surprise from this brand; if the Samsung 85mm is super-sharp, this one is noticeably sharper. It is so sharp that when shooting some portraits you may want to soften the image in order to satisfy your subject. Fringing is a very minor problem and probably no worse than with any other Samsung lens, which in most instances is barely noticeable and usually corrected in-camera if you choose JPG as your image format. If shooting RAW, it will be more noticeable but is never likely to be annoying. There is a benefit with this lens in that its slightly longer-than-standard focal length will help blur backgrounds provided there is some separation from the subject; the wide maximum aperture will blur those backgrounds even more. The Bokeh obtained appears to be smooth and without any obvious geometric artefacts. The diaphragm is 9-bladed which helps make it quite circular and very regular without obvious straight edges which create the unwanted artefacts.

Physically the lens is quite light and it feels as if it may have a plastic body. The lens mount is metal but some reviews and product descriptions state that the body is of 'primarily metal' construction. Focus is internal and the lens does not extend or retract during focussing.

Simply put - this is the sharpest lens in the NX range (as of May 2015). It's small enough to fit on the small size NX range (NX300, NX3000, NX500, etc) without looking silly. It's fast. Its auto focus is silent and quick.

I tested its sharpness and it is tack sharp at all apertures.

True, the addition of IOS would make this a 6* lens :-) but it is easy to handhold at up to 1/50th second, so it probably doesn't need IOS.

If you need a short telephoto lens, then get this!

Outstanding lens. I use it with NX500 and the quality is incredible, even wide open!
I can’t see any difference between my photos taken with full frame camera (5D mk2) with sharpest lenses and this combo. Unfortunately it is a mystery why Samsung cameras and lenses were so unpopular that they decided to stop selling their cameras in Europe…
I recommend the inexpensive NX500 (includes 4K video!) for this lens (NX45mm) + Samyang 8mm 2.8 (another gem).
But in order to appreciate the quality you need a good monitor too (4K would be best option).
