At the moment I'm only using it for my OS with all of my data being stored on 2 x 500 Gig disks... but I'm mightily impressed with the speed of the disk and will certainly be looking to move over to SSDs when the price drops a bit more into my price range.
For me the main attraction of the Samsung SSD is the fact that everything is made in house so there are less likely to be any compatibility issues...
Don't forget if, like me, you are putting this in a tower system you will need to take into accounting the smaller profile of the 2.5" SSD if you are putting it into a 3.5" HD bay or a 5" DVD bay.
I found both of these usefull:
Akasa 2.5/3.5 inch to 5.25 inch Mounting Adapter
Icy Dock MB990SP-B Dual 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch SATA and IDE SSD/HDD Bracket
It's small and lightweight but the metal case feels like cheap tin that would break really easily, although I'm not sure if that's the case.
I guess it doesn't matter much since it's for use internally.
The drive package itself is basic, just the drive, no 3.5 adapter plate, no screws, but then the price reflects this, so I have no problems with this, and the packaging is minimal but adequate.
Performance wise, the read speeds and seek times are unsurprisingly very fast (as are all SSD drives) the real difference between SSD drives is all down to the write speed performance, and this one seems pretty good, from CrystalMark I got the following results (an older system, newer systems may benchmark better still):
Sequential Read 470 MB/Sec
Sequential Write 247 MB/Sec
All in all, a great buy. The Data Migration software is something many other drives omit to include.
The Samsung 840, although not as fast as their Pro version is one of the best drives out there available to the consumer. It replaces the equally fantastic 830 but now ships in two flavours; standard and pro. The main difference being that the pro offers faster write speeds than the non-pro version and it has tweaked many things under the hood compared to the older 830 models, including a new controller and better wear levelling that should make the drive last longer and stay at top performance.
The drive itself is in a nice matt black with orange fonts and is 7mm thick which makes it suitable the newer laptops that require thinner drives.
I use an ssd for my main os and apps and a mechanical drive for storage of music/docs etc .
Samsung's software suite handles drive cloning; drive wiping; firmware updates the lot. And is very user friendly and easy to use. It even includes benchmarking tools and will optimise your system for ssd use if you didn't previously have one. I.e. turn of defrag etc. Though just re-running the windows experience index will take care of that too. I used the built in clone feature to clone my system from my crucial M4 to the 840 pro and then to this drive. My system is running spot on. For those that don't want to use Samsung's software I highly recommend the free programme 'Macrium Reflect' for cloning.
I have deliberately omitted bench mark results as in reality they can vary between systems (not to mention benchmark software used) and I don't much care of benching, unless you want bragging rights.... ;-)
From the power button to desktop is roughly 20 seconds and when I say desktop my system is ready to go and has already started up and loaded everything that runs in the background. This is phenomenal compared to a mechanical drive. With a mechanical drive windows might be showing you the desktop but still isn't ready as it chugs through everything it has to load.
All my apps such as Office 2013 are pretty much loaded instantly and games, although not instantly on definitely benefit from the ssd. Faster load times, less time transitioning between levels etc.
An ssd can also breathe new life into an old laptop, bringing much of the above mentioned speed boost not to mention lower power draw so longer battery life.
I must say this is a top class drive which is blindingly fast and a must these days in a modern computer.
I will never go back to a mechanical hard drive for my os/apps. When considering the difference between the pro and non-pro version what I would say is consider whether you need the better write speed. Once windows and your apps are installed it's all down to read speed, which both drives excel at, and in any event the write speed on the non-pro version is still far better than most mechanicals!
As I mentioned the main difference between this and the pro version, IOP's aside is the write speed. However when looking at this I would say it is not an issue for 90% of people. The write speed is faster than most mechanicals for starters. Additionally, once your os/app's are installed it is all about the read speed. So for the average user/gamer etc I would say the non-pro version is sufficient.

Great value if speed is important to you. Back it up with a HDD for more storage.
