Format: Paperback
Vampire Attack is the fifth (and final?) book in the Sammy Feral series, which sees young Sammy Feral living at Feral Zoo and training to become a cryptozoologist. He's an expert in weird and wonderful creatures, can talk to animals and is a dab hand when it comes to cleaning out pot-bellied pigs. This book is my favourite of the five, because I am of course a very big fan of the undead!

In Vampire Attack, the children from a nearby village have all gone missing, and his town is next. Vampire bats are the problem, and they intend to turn every human and animal into one of their own. It's up to Sammy, Donny, Red, and their new cat friend Sphinx to stop the attack before everyone starts craving blood and growing wings.

I've been patiently waiting for this series to tackle vampires, and I'm more than happy with how it turned out. Rather than actual vampires, it's vampire bats that are turning people, which is an unusual way for it to happen and not one I've seen much in children's fiction. Eleanor Hawken puts her own spin on the creatures as always, and the result is a great little vampire story with some genuinely worrying moments!

I've really enjoyed the Sammy Feral's Diaries of Weird series; it's right up my street and packed full of fantastic creatures of legend. It's also humorous and peppered with extremely likeable characters (human and animal, of course), and Hawken has a brilliant imagination. Her next series is called Felix Frost Time Detective, which sounds like another must-read series and one I'll be sure to look out for.

My 6 year old daughter chose this herself. It's the first book she could not put down and read it in one day. Now to buy the rest in the series!

My 10 year old daughter LOVED this series... She would read each one within a few days of receiving it.... Which is saying a lot, because while she is a good reader, she doesn't just take to every book I put in front of her, like her brother. So I was thrilled when these books were such a hit.
