Product description

Product Description

'The Same But Different' is the long awaited solo album from the UK's finest clawhammer banjoist and features the Dan Walsh Band alongside several solo tracks by the leader. The songs and tunes are mostly self-penned, which was one of Dan's principle aims for the new album, although his inspiration is drawn from many different places. As with his previous work, in the award nominated duo with Will Pound, he was keen to keep the album eclectic, with a variety of influences evident but with the banjo remaining very much at the centre of it all plus a core band of fine supporting musicians. The band comprises: Dan Walsh Banjo, Vocals, Guitar; Rachel Newton Harp, Vocals; Christi Andropolis Fiddle, Vocals; Nic Zuppardi Mandolin; Jon Proud Bass; Adam Sinclair Drums, Percussion.

Review

'From the opening three 'Jigs' to the frenetic salvo of six 'Reels', this second solo CD from Dan Walsh consolidates him as one of the UK's finest clawhammer banjoists. His solos are breathtaking reaching dizzying heights of dexterity, while his solid chord and percussive work are strong throughout. But it's not just a banjo bonanza. The mix of self-penned numbers, trad songs and instrumentals are fleshed out by a talented line-up of backing musicians. The dub arrangement of 'When A Man's In Love', the cool jazz of 'Bread & Butter' and the bluegrass bluster of 'The Wiseman' will surprise and enthral, but it's the simple, poignant and sincere title track that steals the show. Wonderful.' --Accoustic
