I was enjoying the book except in that most of the way through it became a fantasy novel with a huge influx of magic into what had been doing perfectly well up to that point as a pseudo historical novel, this distracted considerably from the characters and diminished their role in the plot.
4.0 out of 5 starsDecent enough story to want to go to the next book.

I liked the first book enough to get the second book. I was a bit apprehensive at first as I am not all into the the Nights of Arabia thing. But as it turns out the story touches on some "Feels like authentic history" for backbone and a lot of story wrapped around it. The Characters are well outlined in the beginning (a little slow but then it's being developed here) moves along a slowly at first.
The story has a good mix of magic, folklore, a touch of romance and suspense. It does jump around but doesn't leave you hanging for a long before getting back to each action point with the characters. Sometimes the writers seem to forget to bring you back for a long time. This seemed to be a decent blend of movement within the story as it developed.
Fun book to read that keeps one wanting to read on even when it is time to quit. It can be read as a free standing book but it will leave you wanting to read the second book in the series. There are some very interesting characters and imaginative situations throughout the book.
Their was some good character development for the main character, and one or two of the supporting cast, but that was about it. The whole thing with Talis never did anything, and what seemed to be the climatic battle at the strong hold never took place. That final battle was a huge disappointment. Not sure I will move on to the next one.
A good tale with appealing characters. Perhaps a bit harsh with violence for young readers, there is a horde of menacing Huns after all. Editing is good except for occasional misuse of commas that should not be found in a novel of this otherwise professional quality.
