Samantha Henthorn was born in 1970something in Bury, England. When she was a child, she read Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton. When she was a teenager she watched Victoria Wood and read Stephen King. Now she reads lots of things.
Last Christmas, her husband bought her a DNA kit and Samantha found out that she is 96% Mancunian. Therefore, Samantha is well suited to her chosen genre, comedy-drama set in Manchester. Readers have compared her books to Fawlty Towers, Sophie Kinsella and The Bridget Jones Series. Her books include the contemporary social satire series, Curmudgeon Avenue. The historical fiction '1962' (An Uplifting Tale of 1960s Lancashire), the short story collection 'Quirky Tales to Make Your Day' and the novella 'Piccalilly'.
She has one cat, one dog, one gorgeous grown-up daughter and one husband. When not reading or writing, she is listening to heavy metal (particularly the grunge years of the early '90s). Samantha would be thrilled to bits if someone read - or listened to her books.
Samantha had a twenty-year nursing career in the NHS, working both in hospital and community settings. After a diagnosis of MS in 2005, she eventually accepted early retirement in 2014. Looking for a career where she can work for herself within a paced routine, Samantha remembered her love of reading and drew on her observation skills and imagination to start writing. Samantha often feels as though she is living in a sit-com and this is reflected in her style.
Samantha looks after her condition by attending physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, sleeping whenever and wherever possible, wearing sunglasses indoors, avoiding emotional vampires and enjoying life as much as she physically can.

Edna is heartbroken after her long term partner moved to France and is now unhappily cohabiting with her idiot sister. Edith's son Ricky Ricketts permanently hangs around Curmudgeon Avenue with his on/off girlfriend Wantha, her sister Toonan and all the tomfoolery they bring.
The sisters decide to advertise for a lodger, and the notable Harold Goatshed moves in. He is yet another of Edna's exes. Still vulnerable from the Maurice incident, Edith falls for his charms.

DOES ERNEST BRADSHAW HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BECOME A TROPHY WINNING CYCLIST?
'A warm, humane, affectionate, finely-observed tale of a teenage boy, his family, friends and Lancastrian community, set in the sixties against the chilling backdrop of the Cold War and Cuban Missile Crisis' - Kindle customer.
‘1962 has a playful concept that places one young boy’s dreams in a troubling time. There is a sense of fun with Ernest’s unstoppable optimism.’ Rocliffe
Ernest Bradshaw lives in a two up two down with his mother, Rose and Uncle Billy. They go to church every Sunday, along with most other people in the village. While Rose is praying for peace, Ernest is hoping for two things; that he can run away from the school bullies, and that his mother doesn’t notice the hole in his sock. Ernest’s Auntie Marigold and Uncle Norman live in a bay-fronted detached house, and despite their seemingly perfect life, they too have seen the news and are petrified about events thousands of miles away in Cuba.
With school teachers getting carried away about the Cuban Missile Crisis and Rose having a mini-drama at work, Uncle Norman steps in to solve problems at home and introduces Ernest to a cycling club he has seen advertised in Bolton. Here Ernest meets Christopher and Janet, his new friends, and Mr and Mrs Towers – club leaders. Can Ernest get enough money together to buy himself a racing cycle and win a cycling trophy before the world ends?
An uplifting, heartwarming coming of age, family story with all the nostalgia and charm of 1960s Lancashire.

YOU CANNOT ENJOY EDITH WITHOUT ENDURING HAROLD.
'A quirky, tongue-in-cheek funny story' (Against The Flow Press)
Samantha Henthorn's style of writing is quirky, warm and witty. Each character jumps off the page and becomes a real person that you can relate to, get irritated by and laugh at. (UK Kindle customer)
When we return to Curmudgeon Avenue in book two, Harold and Edith jump on the rollercoaster of romantic comedy. Harold thinks he is always right. Soon he will be in the wrong, accidentally hitting people in the face with his rucksack and accidentally proposing to Edith. Ricky Ricketts continues his on/off entanglement with Wantha Rose, Edna is missing presumed living in France, and the house itself is still exasperated - but wait! Who is this mysterious man driving his expensive car up and down Curmudgeon Avenue? For readers who enjoy the delightful Manchester sense of satire, this quirky comedy-drama will make you smile.
If you enjoyed the 'soaps' when they used to be full of fun and laughter - and had a light-hearted storyline, then this is DEFINITELY one for you (Grace J Reviewerlady)

27-Dec-2020
£1.99
£6.00
THE ONE WHERE IT'S THE CURMUDGEONLY FINAL
It’s Christmas during pandemic and for a change, it’s fun. (US reader)
A Curmudgeonly Christmas wraps up this delightfully funny series with two weddings and a final farewell for one much-loved, prominent character and two others who I thought deserved it! (Against the Flow Press)
Curmudgeon Avenue has been going on for quite some time, some would say for longer than reasonably necessary... In this Curmudgeonly final, the nincompoops of Curmudgeon Avenue would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Gordon Bennett is obsessed with the pothole growth on the street as we get proper emosh at Wantha and Ricky's wedding. But! Did Wantha ever get to find out who her daddy is?
Christmas is coming, and Francesca is getting fat meanwhile Zandra may have overdone it with the scented candles. And the ghosts are immune to any and all lockdown restrictions.
Put down the selection box and the sausage rolls, A Curmudgeonly Christmas is a perfect end to the Curmudgeon Avenue series and the year!

THE ONE WHERE THE B*TCH RETURNS
Reformed rent burglar Georgina Foote moves back to Whitefield and into number 13 Curmudgeon Avenue. She is desperately seeking Kevin but all she finds is nonsense. Collecting enemies at work and at home, Georgina Foote does not belong here.
Meanwhile, a mass exodus occurs when Wantha Rose, Ricky Ricketts and newbie Krystina moved to Greenmount. They think that the world does not revolve around Curmudgeon Avenue, will they find out that it does?
A denouement of sorts resolves the ghost's stories when Harold takes up residence in the House of Commons, and Edith reunites with her first husband.
Zandra Bennett's career takes on a new direction when she unwittingly starts channelling the ghost of Edith in the under-the-stairs space.
We finally get to find out Mrs Ali's first name, her story and her source of all knowledge.
Wantha and Ricky nearly get married, and we learn why the Rose sisters have such daft names. Their mother, Patchouli is still living the life of luxury, and occasional abseiling with Gil Von Black
Not intended as a cosy read, the characters in this social satire provide an utterly British escape.
Will the nincompoops of Curmudgeon Avenue survive without the street?
The ending is a shocker!

IS GENEVIEVE ALL SHE SEEMS?
'Another roaring good read.' Against The Flow Press
'All in all, a lively, breathless and definitely unique story.' Books Are Cool.com
' The ending occurs with a twist to end all twists.' US Kindle customer.
Edna Payne's heart-thumping second chance romance with Genevieve Dubois is rekindled when we return to Curmudgeon Avenue. The couple escapes the humdrum life of Whitefield when they move to France. Meanwhile, in Whitefield, two heavily pregnant women are proving to be a complication for Ricky Ricketts.
This delightful third off-beat comedy romance in the quirky Curmudgeon Avenue series is a hilarious satire of snobbery, escapism and later life romance.
' I really enjoyed that the book was based over two settings, England and France, both the scenes gelled well together, and I really enjoyed how fun and interesting all of the different characters were. They all added a little bit of fun to the book and they were all individual.' Coffee and Kindle Book Reviews
' As the vagaries of speed dating are explored and the dangers of casual social media use exposed, the dynamic pace of this novel is well maintained.' Northern Reader
