The reason i call Salvation a piece of music is that in order for you to fully appreciate it, you really need to listen to it from start to finish. I've listened to this album maybe twenty times and i still find it a worthy investment of 70 minutes of my time. The music takes on a different form with every listen, often to suit my mood. Therefore no two listens are the same.
Its hard to know where to begin with the music. Cult of Luna demonstrate the ability to make a musical experience a cinematic one. From passages that are so ambient and tranquil they could put you to sleep to an earth shattering, raging heaviness that i can only describe as apocalyptic. Salvation is a concept album and one which i think has been written very well. Somehow all the songs MUST be played in the correct order and despite the dynamic highs and lows within each song, you constantly feel the theme is being built upon, song by song, until finally the album climaxes. Its hard to know if the lyrics or the music of this concept album take the lead role. I feel that they go hand in hand. To drop possible influences or to draw comparisons to the music of Salvation would do Cult of Luna an injustice. I can only say that anybody who enjoys being taken on a musical journey of peaks and valleys and anybody who appreciates the broad spectrum of music from light to heavy may find something in Salvation.

Cult of Luna have created something special with Salvation - I'm intrigued as to what the Swedish septet might follow this up with.

After enjoying very much the previous two albums produced by CoL, I was skeptical that this album could match up. I listened to it for the first time expecting the same as the previous albums, as you do, but I got something different. Feeling dissent, I decided to leave it. Then I started to want to listen to it again and I found that this album was absolutely brilliant.
Every song is brilliantly crafted like a work of art. They're all very beautiful, simple songs which sound unlike any band you'd ever hear about. But this CD has something special, it's heavy but it's soft. One minute it will ressemble your meditation tapes, then it'll build up and your adrenaline will follow suit. Then it'll build up to a point, and then explodes into the awesome sound that is Cult Of Luna.
The effort put into this album is astounding and if you want something different (be you into metal/hardcore/punk/rock/jazz/pop) I think you'll enjoy this. It appeals to so many genres because it's in no rush to go anywhere like our modern metal CDs. It's sound is unique and powerful, even in the parts which are not loud.
In short, give this a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Download the sample track from [...] and then come back and buy it.

As great as "The Beyond" was, it wasn't quite up to par with the likes of Neurosis, Isis, Mahumodo and so on, but this masterpiece will surely change that. Nothing sounds forced or under/over repetitive, the band have perfected the art of progression just as Isis did with "Oceanic". The band experiments with a lot more warm, mellow guitar, keyboard and drum sounds on this one, and the heavy parts sound more natural, with a more blunt, yet still pummeling guitar tone. Klas Ryndberg is still one of my favourite vocalists, not because of his range, but because of the sheer emotion he conveyes with his brutal roars. There is also some nice singing on "Leave Me Here" and "Crossing Over" (from a guest vocalist I think). My favourite track is definately "Waiting For You" with it's mind-blowing build-up. The band is also getting some TV exposure with the (quite excellent) video for "Leave Me Here". The best new album I've heard all year (along with Pig Destroyer's "Terrifyer", yet I have still to hear the new Isis album), you are missing out if you do not get hold of this.
