From the Back Cover
A real hero can fix anything . . .
Hudson Wheeler is a nice guy. Everyone knows it, including his fiancee who left him with a canceled wedding and a baby on the way. He's tired of finishing last and is ready to start living in the moment with nights soaked in whiskey, fast cars, and even faster girls. He's set to start living on the edge, but when he meets Poppy Cruz, her sad eyes, shining out of the most beautiful face he's ever seen, hook him in right away.
Poppy can't remember a time when she didn't see strangers as the enemy. After a lifetime of being hurt by the men who swore to protect her, Poppy's determined to keep herself safe by keeping everyone else at arm's length. Wheeler's sexy grin and rough hands from hours restoring classic cars shouldn't captivate her, but every time she's with him, she can't help being pulled closer to him. Though she's terrified to trust again, Poppy soon realizes it might hurt even more to shut Wheeler out--and the intense feelings pulsing through her are making it nearly impossible to resist him.
The only thing Poppy is sure of is that her heart is in need of some serious repair, and the more time she spends with Wheeler, the more she's convinced he's the only man with the tools to fix it.--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. See all Product description

I strongly recommend that you buy the series from the start -Levelled. Whilst your could read this book as a standalone, I feel you would miss out on back story references.
The SOD series started after the Marked Men series but you don't have to start with the MM series first.
Back to the book, I agree with other reviewers this has more romance and less angst. Both the lead characters are lovely. The book is sweet, not dentist requiring sweet, but more a tug at the "feels" sweet.
In short Poppy is an abuse survivor and Wheeler is a man who has bettered the cards dealt to him to become a garage owner and restorer of classic cars. The two are drawn to each other due to what the have overcome not because they are broken. It's a little rougher than boy meets girl, girl kisss boy etc, but it is sweet, warm and best of all shows the power of tenacity.
For readers of the series the ending is exactly what you would want.
For those new to Jay Crownover - trust me you will love the series, and there are a lot of other books written by this talented and generous writer.
Loved it so so much. I am so happy that Poppy and Wheeler found each other.
I am floating somewhere higher than cloud nine. Yes i am gutted that its the last book featuring my favorite hot men. But all good things need to end and the ending was amazing
I am so glad Poppy's dad got what he deserved. So sad her mum did what she did, i suppose it was years of condtioning. Zak, Wheeler's grandad i actually thought he was Wheeler's dad. So glad Wheeler has family.
It was a beautiful love story that had some grit and glimpses into the other SOD & Marked amen characters too! I loved that we got to see Poppy go from victim to survivor with Wheeler's strength and connection helping her, and her devotion to Jim helping him through his journey!!
I absolutely loved it and am sad this is the last book in the SoD, but I look forward to the other series that Jay Crownover writes so well!!
This series as come to an end but so privileged to have read it!!!!well done on another amazing book.x
