The Salter 9004 SV3R is a glass platform electronic personal weighing scale with a toughened glass platform. It can measure up to 180 kg (metric) and 28 st 8 lb (imperial). It has an easy-to-read LCD display and a large platform for generous foot room.
The scale is tap start for increased reliability and accuracy. In order to get an accurate weight reading, the user must first “activate” the scale by tapping the platform. Once the display reads 00.00, the scale is then ready to be stepped onto for a weight reading. The 9004 glass platform scale is powered by two CR2032 button batteries, which come with the product. Every Salter scale also comes with a 15-year guarantee and carpet feet for use on carpeted surfaces. I knew my old scales weren't accurate and was weighing me lighter than I am, so decided to buy a new set, unfortunately I hadn't realised just how much heavier I am. Read the reviews and decided on this set.
They are ideal for the larger person (of which I am definitely one) and the reading is lovely and large so is very clear and easy to read.
I can't get them to turn on with a tap so I have found that it is easier to get them to come on by lifting them a little (1cm of ground) and putting them down gently rather than tapping them, not so good if you can't bend down though. They don't take too long to get ready or to take a reading, like all scales they prefer a hard surface to rest on. 2 x circular 2032 batteries are required.
They are larger than the average scales so wouldn't suit a small bathroom but we are fortunate to have a large bathroom so no problem there.
They measure in stone pounds to decimal, just lbs or kgs gs, and the switch to change between them is easy to access on the bottom, as is the battery space, which is easy to open, no screwdriver required. I'm old school so prefer stones and like the idea that they go to 1 decimal point as, when you are trying to lose weight which I definitely am, even a small loss is better than none at all.
Only time will tell how long they will last and how accurate they will remain, but so far so good.
Good price, nice product and arrived quickly.
Salter Glass Electronic Scale 9004 SV3R
I possessed a fitness type scale with the old analogue dial which was very good but covered such a range that the actual scale was just a blur of very close together graduations, difficult to read when standing up on it.
I needed to closely monitor my weight after suffering severe weight loss due to serious illness and, with poor eyesight as well, decided to invest in some type of scale with a digital readout. I was certainly not disappointed in this one - it has been superb and used on a daily basis.
Quite frankly, reading some of the few more negative reviews, I find some of the adverse comments a bit churlish, like it being too big for the bathroom; it's not that big, especially compared to my old ones. It's about average for this type of scale. The display not settling quickly enough is another; it only takes a few seconds and the complainant obviously doesn't have any inkling of the load cell technology and associated electronics behind such devices. I could go on but lets just say you can't compare modern digital technology with the old analogue stuff and say it's no good basically because it's different.
For information, when you select stones display, it does actually display down to decimal parts of a pound, so 10 stone, 7 1/2 lbs. is actually displayed as
10:7.5, etc. so you can work it out down to the ounce if you want to.
Others have commented that its size is an issue. I stand it on its side and it is no longer an issue.
It is as others say slightly slow to produce a reading. However it takes its time to produce a consistent weight.
It repeatability if you move where it is or weigh again when you know nothing has changed is better than other I have used in the past.
I had a very similar model before and bought this to replace it. I would recommend it to others and I bought it again.
The obvious question is why it needed to be replaced. One of the feet became detached when it was dragged fairly roughly sideways.
Others can learn from this, and be a little more gentle, but do not be too concerned about this.
I have found them to be of a consistent read-out - (no matter where they are placed around the bathroom) - and is important to me as I have to record my weight for my diabetes / diet. The style is attractive and modern looking, and the battery life is quite long too. The readout might have benefitted with a backlit display, but has the advantage of when you step off the scales, the present weight read-out stays on for a few seconds enabling you to bend down and read off how heavy, or lighter - (I wish !!!) - you have become !
