It's not hard, really, not for designers or manufacturers.
Wanted: one kitchen timer, digital, with hours, minutes, seconds in a clear display with easy to use buttons.

This Salter unit seems to tick all the boxes. It has a clock, four timers and a clear display. The magnet works okay - it's a magnet, what else can it do?

Otherwise, the unit itself is made of cheap rigid plastic* with buttons that are unpleasant to use. You can double click them too easily and in choosing a second timer it's too easy to reset the main clock function, which zeroes your timers. Not useful if you've got a complicated job on.
*Don't drop it on a tiled floor.

Please don't buy this. It just encourages manufacturers to build more tat in the hope we're stupid enough to spend money on it. I'd have spend double or triple on a unit with these functions that was properly made from decent materials.

This was a replacement for our first 4-way timer. Only needed to replace the first one because we accidently broke the glass panel. It is really useful to be able to time several things at once when cooking. I really wouldn't want to be without this gadget. A single timer is useless!

We recently bought one of these Salter 4 way timers to replace an old and trusty friend who after many years of faultless service suddenly "passed away".
We decided to opt for the Salter based on looks, functionality and its respected name in the world of cooking.
In practise we found the timer set button functions fidgety to use. The permanent time clock repeatedly reset itself to zero and the back magnet
didn't seem to be up to the job as it was often found lying on the floor.
Maybe we just got a bad one - but we won't be having another - thats for sure!

This was a gift but I have been told by the receiver that it is very useful and very easy to use.

I am mystified - there seem to be three versions of this available on Amazon alone with reviews that are polarised to either 'great' or 'terrible'. One reviewer refers to an earlier model which was excellent and I wonder if the new ones are the rogues. Certainly my model is an excellent concept as it is portable (and seems to be the only one like this manufactured) but the build quality is truly dreadful. The buttons are stiff, the stand flimsy and the "minute" setting button is about to fall off - all this after only two months with little use!

If anyone knows of a well built timer that I can take with me so I can get on with other things out of earshot of the kitchen I would be very grateful.

Actually bought this product elsewhere, but felt the need to comment, when I saw it for sale on Amazon...
Don't buy it - its cheap, plasticky & within a week the buttons no longer function at all well (requiring multiple presses, usually, to activate a function). The four timers are an excellent idea, but the whole product is very badly implemented. It now sticks, by its magnet, unused on our fridge (whilst we use our very old Salter Big Time timer - which this product was bought to replace).

By the way, gave this product 1 star, because there is no option for Zero stars.

We have had this timer for about a year and I am writing this review as I am looking on Amazon for a replacement. Sadly I will not be buying this model again as although it is in theory a lovely little device, nice design, 4 timers are useful and does exactly what we wanted, ultimately the build quality let it down. The battery cover falls off it you look at it but this can be easily fixed with a bit of sellotape. However, in less than a year of light use already the buttons are starting to fail and it's now got so bad we are replacing it. Such a shame, loved it otherwise!

Our original four way Salter kitchen timer (the "blue" one) broke when it was dropped on the floor so I tried to find an exact replacement but, like Amazon, most places reported it being unavailable.
I therefore bought what I assume is the latest version (Salter 392, or the "green" one).
Even though it still 'works', I am thinking about buying another timer altogether as this one is so poor.
Firstly the buttons are much stiffer and dont seem to work as well as the older model. However, the biggest flaw is it's battery compartment. The battery cover is at the top of the back panel but when you try and set the time for the various timers, the cover slips off and the batteries fall out.
This is a serious design flaw.
Bring back the original which was a great timer.
