I am used to road running trainers like Asics and Nike so was wary about transitioning to these but have a long mud/obstacle race coming up so took the plunge! All i can say are that i prefer these to my Asics Kayano Gel trainers - even on the road. They are incredibly lightweight - the cord style lace stays done up tight for 10m plus - they are super bouncy and absorb a lot of the impact of miles on pavement - and then you hit the trails and it gets better... amazing grip and light weight means you dont get bogged down in mud and dirt.
Yet to do the tough mudder race but i reckon these will do the job admirably - even though they will never look so good again!
Get these shoes!
Update Post Tough Mudder:
These were indeed the perfect choice - drain really quick and provided wearing with dry wick socks, no sloshing about. Great grip and offer good level of support which, dont forget, you wont get with minimalist style runners. Shoe laces never came loose over 12 miles, not a single stone entered shoe (which loads of others complained about). And after a quick wash down they are good to go again!
The only negative - if you are wearing very thin socks - the plastic zig zag stripe thing that runs up the shoe actually digs through the very thin outerlayer and can be uncomfortable on the inside of your foot after a long run. Easily overcome with thicker socks or ankle supports etc
all in - stand by my original comments!
