Product Description

Classic 70's quiz show resurrected in interactive game. The dramatic voice-over at the start of every show announced 'it's the quiz of the week', heralding the arrival of impossibly suave host Nicholas Parsons. Contestants would not only accrue cash during the length of the show, but spend it too, on an endless parade of highly discounted items. Here, under the expert eye of a virtual Mr. Parsons, single or multiple players can compete in eight categories with a total of over 1100 questions.

Well I only just remember this with Nicholas Parsons but I do remember the revived version with Keith (Checkers). Anyway the game is excellent, I thought it was going to be a poor attempt since the show has not been on for ages.

The object of the game is to answer questions on specific topics. Your score increases and you can go for prizes. For easy scoring the value of those prizes are added to your total. The questions are different every time and the question topics are often different, as there are many topics but only 5 rounds so you get different topics each time you play as well as different questions. Its a real family entertainment game. Just one issue, if you select a large number of players in the multiplayer option, the game can last a long time as 5 there are 5 rounds of 5 questions per person plus 5 rounds of sales prizes plus the final round. On the other hand its great value entertainment!

The best part is that its fully interactive and LIVE, by live I mean the clock is ticking and you have to select an option with your romote control.

The last round is fantastic, you have 60 seconds to answer as many questions as you can. This would have been a perfect final round for Telly Addicts DVD, so if your listening, get it sorted for Telly Addicts Version 4. The quicker you answer the questions the more questions you can answer, it really makes the final round a deciding battle between your teams.

I have to start out by saying that I am a fan of Nicholas Parsons, both in Just a Minute and Sale of the Century.

This is an interactive DVD done in a small studio with, at the beginning at least, a slightly nervous-looking Nicholas Parsons. He is dressed very well, and is a gentlemen throughout. Four stars for his performance.

The rules of the television version of Sale of a Century are these: You start out with ÂŁ15, and the three teams may choose to buzz in to answer questions worth initially ÂŁ1, and in later rounds ÂŁ3 and ÂŁ5. An incorrect answer costs that amount of money. At the end of each round the leader is given the chance to buy something.

Now forget all that. The DVD version is nothing to do with this. So why is this "Sale of the Century"?

There are 6 rounds, and the first 5 rounds are the same. A subject is chosen at random, and each team has to answer 5 questions about that subject. Nicholas Parsons reads each question - that is a nice touch, and is worth an extra star. Whoever wins the round goes to the bonus round.

Here's the problem. The 5 questions in the round are multiple-choice - and easy. The time limit of 15 seconds was not a real time limit at all. We consistently got all 5 questions right, which meant it went to sudden death, where we had to answer another question correctly - and then another - and then another.

The questions were too easy, and the only mistakes we made were eventually silly mistakes to progress to the next round. Why wasn't the time limit reduced? Maybe because this isn't an arcade DVD? (But then, see the 6th round).

The difference between each of the first 5 rounds - the money per question, and the subject. Wow(!) Lose 2 stars.
