Nice looking and functions well...

Firstly: the reviews below that claim the key legends are wearing off must be for the Saitek Gaming keyboard and not the Eclipse as shown here. The Eclipse has laser etched key legends which can't wear off unless the whole top of the key comes with them!
I'm using my new keyboard to type this review (it's first usage, which is fitting) and it's very good. The keys feel well damped but positive: they are quiet in operation. The keyboard installed automatically under XP and the backlighting is attractive and, more importantly, very effective. For those times when I'm playing first person games in dark (virtual) rooms in my dark (real) room then this will be as invaluable as I'd hoped.
The footprint of the keyboard is quite minimal so don't believe the comment about that below either. Oh, there's a 2 year guarantee too which is useful but I don't see what can go wrong with it: the leds will last a lifetime and the construction quality seems good. Recommended.

Nice keyboard - very easy to install under Windows XP - just plug it into a spare USB port and away you go.
The blue light is nice - on an evening using the computer in the family room I can comfortably see all the keys without the light switched on (although note that the keyboard is on its own shelf on the workstation).
Its fairly quiet - definately not silent, but quieter than the keyboard that came with the computer. Before I bought this keyboard you could hear someone typing if you were watching TV in the next room. Now, the disturbance is considerably reduced.
All in all, a pretty good purchase. My only reservation is one that has been previously mentioned in that the wrist rest is a bit tacky, but it does do its job.

i have just purchased this keyboard and i am over the moon with it the quaility is first class ,the unit feels robust with the keys having a lovely feel to them but more importantly for me the keyboard is using blue led,s under the keys and i have a clear view of the keys even in poor light , the light switch has 3 settings, the wrist support is good as well and not just a stupid add on so go on buy yourself one you know you want too.

Excellent Hardwaring Product

I've had this keyboard for around two years now, I use it every day for general use, such as emailing, working on spreadsheets, etc and have also put in countless hours of night time gaming. As the gamers among you will know, playing FPS games causes uneven wear to a keyboard over time, centred around the WASD area. Despite the time that has passed and the usage that this keyboard has seen, it's still, quite amazingly, as fresh as the day I bought it. There's not a hint of wear on the keys, even the edges of the laser etched characters are still have razor sharp definition.

The Eclipse is solid made, it looks great and feels like a quality product, in particular the keys have a very nice feel to them. The keys make a nice solid sounding clunk when depressed (rather like the way the door on an expensive car closes with a firm clunk), however, it's not noisy or distracting, like the clickety-click of a cheap keyboard. The keys also do not seem to travel as far as the keys on my standard keyboard, maybe a feature for faster response when gaming?

The cool blue lighting is a very nice and works to great effect at night time, the keys on the extremities are, perhaps, not quite as bright as the more central keys, however, I've never found recognition a problem in the dark. I will say though, in a poorly lit room, it doesn't work as well, as the partial light can slightly dampen the effect of the blue back lighting. You're best off using the Eclipse with no room lights on at all for the full effect.

The Eclipse is a good performer on the ergonomics front too, it lays flat or can be raised to a slight incline, combine this with the attached, adjustable, wrist rest and it's easy to find a comfortable position for work or gaming. For those that don't like to use a wrist rest, it's only held in place by two clips and can easily be removed.

Good old keyboard with great spacing

Bought one second hand for almost no money. Text on caps seems to wear off quickly, many letters unreadable but the functionality is without complaint. The spacing of the keys is utter perfection, and more than a few modern manufacturers would benefit from taking a hint on this keyboard key layout. Plastic build. Keys wobble a bit. Feels like soft domes. Very typeable. Probably better for typing than for gaming.
10 year old keyboard, well used, all keys still working = thumbs up!

Eclipsed all other keyboard's

I didn't buy the Eclipse keyboard through Amazon but after mine arrived and having used it for a few weeks now I felt compelled to write a review. This quite simply is the best keyboard I have ever used. Being a big guy with big fingers i was happy to to see the keys are well spaced apart and this thing is really sturdy! The keys are quiet when you type and the quality of this product is so evident at first sight! When I decided to buy a new keybord I wanted something without all the multimedia keys which I think make keyboards clustered and confusing, instead i wanted something basic; i mean just the regular keys you would expect on a QWERTY keyboard. The thing that made me buy was the lights! I did my homework and looked at Saitek's other offering the "eclipse II" however i read review after review on the eclipse II with customers being dissapointed with how bright the keyboard shone. None of the reviews for the eclipse mentioned a problem with the illumination and I could not find a bad review of this keyboard at all. I bought the eclipse rather than its newer brother and I am so impressed - its well built, cheap for the price, the illumination of the eclipse is perfect as is the product as a whole. if you are looking for a new keyboard look no further - this really is an excellent product! buy the eclipse - not eclipse II....!
