Top customer reviews
The missions can be way over the top but i think thats whats so great about S.R-3,particularly the second mission.
So instead of going into detail, ill get to what i think...
The good points-
Graphics are alot better
The missions can be alot of fun
The hover-bike...very cool
Lots to collect
Tons of side missions to do
The 'take-downs' are great
The storys abit pants
1 or 2 missions can be frustrating
The professor genki ed. Why make it download? From what i can remember, the second games special ed. came with a flying saucer & a bike but you were able to put the number in on the in-game phone to get that, why go to all the trouble to make genki download, once again those of us who dont play online go empty handed.Thats why i gave the game 4 stars!
Other than that i think the games well worth a purchase
On the plus side, if mayhem and fun is what you want, this game has lots of it. The first few mission are absolutly crazy and are a great way of introducing you to the game. Side missions include some of the greats from previous games, as well as new ones like driving around with a tiger in your car!?
If you want a serious game with serious gameplay Saints Row 3 is the LAST game you should think about getting. If it is ludicrous, totally over the top violence etc, then this is THE game to get.
Saint's Row the Third is a great game and don't let anyone tell you different! There is so much fun to be had in this game from robbing a bank dressed as one of your own gang memembers "Who doesn't want to be Johnny Gat?" to being dragged around town Steelport by a future ally, the story is short but it's fast and furious and doesn't tend to let up. Although it does lack some of the past idea's of Saint's Row 2 such as Multiplayer modes and not just co-op (Which you must buy. 800 points I believe)this game is a mountian of fun and laughter, which I would advice to Saint's Row followers and new comers alike. 8/10
Saints Row 2 was somewhat more over the top but still held much of the originals style and theme had much improved character creation options and still bore a vague resemblence to a cooler more choice filled more urban version of GTA.
Well with saints row 3 all comparisons to GTA can finally be done away with, this latest edition now bears more resemblence to army of 2 or the mercs series than to GTA.
seems the makers of this game listened to all of those that praised the games more over the top action style and less slavish attitude to realism in comparison to GTA, but forgot the real original saints fans who loved Saints row over GTA due to its customization /wider character choice options, since many of those options have gone.
general comparison between this game and the previous 2.
forget comparisons to GTA or even to previous incarnations of saints row, this game bears more similarity to a even more over the top version of mercs 2 or other even more over the top war games than to a crime or gang game, SR3 has your character fighting military style enemies using tanks and stealth bombers.
This will please the fans of over the top crazed action games but will and has put a lot of the fans of the previous saints row games off from buying this.
Other cool elements have gone missing as well such as drug taking and drinking the ability to pick up parts of the environment such as bar stools ect to use as weapons.
Another good part from saints row two thats gone missing is the ability to replay missions which means the game is pretty much finished in one play through and playing coop either requires starting a entirely new game or ends up in pointlessly roaming the streets causing pointless mindless mayhem or replaying some avtivities.
all of the previous games online options are also gone
Some of the previous games activities return and new over the top war game style ones have been added
GRAPHICS this is one element that has vastly improved vechiles are now larger and more detailed streets glisten after rain falls ect though character models are possibly not as good as in saints row 2 since theres more of a cartoony japanese RPG look about them though they are still good.
This was the element that got many people people prefering SR2 over GTA 4 and sadly a lot of that has been reduced, though its still good and certaintly still beats GTAs non existant options.
One can still choose the race age and gender of their character but the ability to choose walking style has gone one would have hoped for a wider variety of voice choices but that too has been reduced and some more senseible choices such as black American female have been replaced by eastern european voice choices and there are still only three choices, surely it would have been easy enough to carry over the choices from saints row 2 and add new ones .
There are far fewer cribs to get and no real customnization options for cribs and many cribs are simply clones of other cribs in the game .
Clothing has improved in many ways but the abilty to mix tops has been reduced since choosing shirts and coats seperately is no longer possible.
Vechile customization like the character creation and clothing options are still there still good but have suffered option reductions
at first glance the world or city looks more impressive than saints row twos stillwater city due to the improved graphics and its greater similarity to GTAs liberty city along with the more enclosed feel and larger scale style of the cities buildings and roads.
But this masks the fact that steelport is simply not as interesting as stillwater was. there is far less variety in this city far less to explore and discover, gone are the cool places like the shopping mall the caverns the underground city the beach the various clubs and the casino .
the casino brings up the fact there are even less mini games in this than there were in the second one, there are also less stores and less variety in store types .
The other notable thing about the new city is that its far less destructable and the option to pick up parking meters and other parts of the environment to use as weapons has totally disappeared .
Fans of over the top mindless just for fun action /mayhem games will love saints row 3 .
But fans of the previous games who loved its customization options will be somewhat disappointed .
Those like me that were hoping saints row would become grittier more realistic with a great world/city and cool mini games that would make the game more of a true rival to GTA but with GTA beating fantastic character options and a realistic gang theme will certaintly be disappointed, and should at least wait until the game has gone down in price somewhat or possibly give the game a miss entirely
