HASH(0x9831e5d0) out of 5 stars Very very cheaply built 14 Aug. 2013

I bought this because of all the 5 star ratings. Didn't pay attention to the number of people who rated this sloppy product (only five)

I wouldn't not wear this thing to ride. You don't have to look closely to see this was not built with high quality parts and craftsmanship in mind. Promptly returned it to seller!

HASH(0x9831e7f8) out of 5 stars Sized for a ROUND head. 15 Dec. 2013
By Mary G. - Published on

I really wanted to like this helmet, it is so light weight and cool looking. I walked into my bike shop with it on and at first glance the guy thought I had bought a $300.+ CatsEye helmet, until I took it off........then you can see the insides are cheap. If you enlarge the pic in the description, you see a Label that says M/L , there is no place to choose size, so I assumed it would be M/L...I got a L, too big and this helmet is shaped for a ROUND head. If you have a round head, I think you would love the helmet. I really wanted to love it but just can't make it fit well.

HASH(0x9831ea5c) out of 5 stars Price doesn't get any better for this much Ventilation! 13 Nov. 2013
By J. Ohata - Published on

If you have been researching bicycle helmets, you will know that more ventilation means more $$$, this helmet is an exception to that rule. It has excellent cooling when in motion, with the internal air channels guiding air through the helmet and out of the rear vents; this means the top interior does not rest flat directly on your head, allowing for excellent air movement. The build of the plastic parts that provides the adjust-ability around the circumference around you head feels a bit cheap, but it is also very lightweight. The entire helmet is very lightweight as well. The clasps on the chin strap feel solid and has a solid reassuring click when engaged. As others have noted timely strap adjustments are necessary, as often as I ride (daily), I am okay with it and I have to do it with other helmets that I own as well. The straps are thick, soft, and pliable. The fit of the helmet seems similar to Bell and Schwinn helmets that I have had, which accommodates rounder heads, if you have a more oval shaped (narrow sides) head a Giro might be better for you. There is adequate velcro attached padding inside the helmet, but it does not have the horizontal sweat catcher at the front of the helmet, so you may get some sweat in the eyes and face. The top plastic shell cover feels well fused to the polystyrene innards, so it should not exhibit peeling like other cheap helmets. It does include a clip on visor, which seems to be of marginal use since it does not extend very far beyond the front of the helmet. As far as how you will look with this thing on your head, you will not be making any magazine covers anytime soon, but who really needs to anyway. Hey, as long as the helmet keeps you safer from head injury and provides reasonable comfort when riding. All in all I feel that it is a good investment.

HASH(0x9831ed98) out of 5 stars Tight around the head & loose straps 28 July 2013
By B. Loeb - Published on
Verified Purchase
This helmet just barely fits my 23.5 inch head. If your head is more than an inch or so larger than mine, you should not purchase this helmet.

That being said, it is an excellent product. The numerous holes make it look a little goofy, but they also provide excellent ventilation. Never before have I worn a helmet which let so much breeze through; I can really feel it. And because it is white, it reflects sunlight extremely well, adding to the cooling experience. The frequency of the holes also makes the helmet very lightweight - about half the weight of normal protective headgear, which I assume is because there is half as much mass.

Update after four months of ownership:
I'm taking one star off of my review because the helmet keeps coming loose. It does not loosen while riding, but rather when taking it off and putting it on. The chin strap gradually loosens over time, making it so that I need to readjust it a few times every month. The device which tightens the helmet around my head becomes loose even more frequently, and I find myself needing to readjust it about twice each week. If the problem becomes worse, I will remove another star, but only time will tell.

Update after two years:
I'm taking another star off because the price of this helmet has gone up by about 40%, and I cannot justify spending the extra money. It was a great bargain, two years ago, even with the poorly designed straps. Now it's just an okay buy.

I use this for riding the citibikes in nyc. It gives me a cheap helmet to keep at the office. Nothing special but it does its job. I would not use as a primary helmet.
