Product Description

Product Description

Three journalists set out to investigate an oddball who claims he can time travel in this indie comedy directed by Colin Trevorrow. When a local paper discovers a personal ad asking for someone to share in a time-traveling trip with the writer, the editor dispatches Jeff (Jake M Johnson) and interns Darius (Aubrey Plaza) and Arnau (Karan Soni) to get a story. After tracing the ad to quirky supermarket shelf-stacker Kenneth (Mark Duplass), an initially sceptical Darius manages to gain his confidence by posing as a potential candidate for his mission. But over the coming weeks, as she undertakes 'training exercises' in the nearby woods, she gradually finds herself torn between her developing feelings for Kenneth and her obligations as a budding reporter.

Wasn't expected too much from this title but it was actually pretty entertaining. Quirky and likable characters (even the idiot boss who takes them on their trip) get up to silly things, with some funny lines and situations in it. Plus the main 'time travel' guy was like a very family friendly version of Kenny Powers from Eastbound and Down.

Recommended for those who like offbeat movies such as Win Win, Moonrise Kingdom, Rushmore, Art of Getting By etc

Please ignore the low average, some person didn't realise US dvds wouldn't work on standard UK dvd players so thusly gave a great film 1 star.

Safety not Guaranteed is a brilliant and very quirky film that is one of the most original films I've seen in a long time. Based off of a simple premise, this is a very different film and a very different love story. It is very engaging, with great characters and humour (a lot of Star Wars references, director is a big fan) taking this above and beyond your average love story. Starting off as a simple story of journalists searching down someone who wrote an ad in a newspaper looking for a partner to travel back in time with, this becomes so much more. With brilliant acting and very good direction this is a film you don't want to miss.

Everyone has written reviews which are far more eloquent than I could write and have said it more succinctly than I ever could. Needless to say this film is BRILLIANT!

I very rarely say this if ever but WATCH THIS FILM!!! My heart and soul feel a little bit lighter for watching this movie.

A thoroughly enjoyable little indie from the States. Baffled that anyone could give it a negative review. Like so many American indie productions this embodies the ubiquitous American attitude of optimism and "can-do", as opposed to the widespread English sour, glass-half-empty cynicism so familiar from British TV. . Guest appearances too from Jeff Carlin, still curbing his enthusiasm, and Mary Lynn Rajskub taking a break from feeding Jack Bauer co-ordinates in "24". Be warned though if, like me, you have hearing problems: this DVD has no subtitles. Enjoy.

Go in to this film with modest expectations and it'll be a pleasant surprise. As slightly quirky (possible) time travel stories go, it's not hugely original but it's well done and has a gentle charm of its own thanks to a large part of the plot being about doubt over whether time travel is really taking place. Just don't expect a science-fiction movie: this is more an offbeat character comedy that has a bit of sci-fi in the background.

"WANTED: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. P.O. Box 91 Ocean View, WA 99393. You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before."

That's the classified advert which starts off this quirky indie comedy thriller. The heroine, Darius (played by Aubrey Plaza) is one of two interns assigned to accompany cynical senior reporter Jeff (Jake Johnson) on an assignment to track down whoever placed this advert and discover the truth behind it in hopes of a story.

It soon becomes clear that Jeff had ulterior motives for proposing this assignment and asking for two interns to accompany him.

The journalists track down Kenneth (Mark Duplass), the man who placed the advert, but he doesn't quite appear to be what any of them had expected ...

This isn't a time-travel film, it is a film about relationships and particularly what goes through the minds of Darius and her colleagues as they try to work out whether Kenneth is a looney, a fraudster, or whether there is any chance that he really can build a time machine.

Some good acting by the relatively unknown cast, a large helping of amusing humour in the plot, but it never crosses over the line between humour and farce.

I can recommend this film if you are looking for something amusing, light, and a bit different.

This is a fantastic, feel-good film that has a great ending but doesn't feel sentimental.
The writing is sharp, funny and smart and you route for the central character and warm to the others who aren't so likeable at first.
There are laugh out loud moments, ones that make you smile warmly, and a touching message about finding others to go through life with.
