The tale worked well, as the reasons for Zach's absence and then appearance in Becca and Parker's lives was genuine, and her reactions felt normal. No total acceptance, but also none of the 'woman hard done by' stuff either. There was anger on her part, but she understood the reasons for Zach's disappearance, and that on his part, it was certainly a case of actions speaking louder than words. The author introduced a slight paranormal slant which was believable and which was sweet, as it had created a father-son relationship between Zach and Parker, despite Parker having been told that his dad was dead.
The sex was pretty hot, but for me personally, the DD spanking was a bit OTT, and more than a little LOL, though the author wrote the scenes well. Certainly they worked for both leads, and via fulfilling Becca's desires for dominance and discipline, Zach earned her forgiveness and trust.
This was certainly a great intro to this author.

Loved the premise of this book, read and enjoyed the sample but sadly that was all I enjoyed. It quickly annoyed me the way Zac was such a top secret Black Ops agent and yet was able to do all the things he did without getting pulled for it, or caught out and everything just ran so smoothly for him. The story he first went with, and the way his death was faked I could go along with, but if I'd been Becca and discovered that being left pregnant and to raise Parker alone these past seven years, and all the hard work and heartache that engendered and then find out that Zac was alive and well, and had known about Parker - well her reaction was Very Very Different to what mine would have been. Supposedly a strong woman, who's gone through all that, raised Parker alone, qualified and working as an English teacher, and then she just rolls over and says "spank me" - well words to that effect.... Purlease...that's just not feasible. She should have been angry, screamed, shouted, asked him what the hell he thought he'd done...instead she turned into a wimp, living out her online fictional D/s life for a few days, and accepting crumbs from his table. As for that scene where she puts herself in danger just to get Zac to come to her - hell, she knows he's Black Ops now, does she just think he will drop everything??? Then Zac, can we really believe he learned all that from online tutorials? I know little about BDSM except from novels, but all I've read suggest hands on practice is the way to become an expert and safe for subs in what you do...
So, not a book for me, but as ever that's a personal view. Maybe you're prepared to suspend reality more than me for a good story, and will enjoy this, all I can say is I didn't :(
Stars: sadly just two, I didn't hate the book, but I didn't like it.
A contemporary spy romance with suspense a-plenty. I love the way the author weaved the heroine's present day story in with the history of her first meeting with the hero. It opens with a cheeky young Becca telling Zak she's not interested in love and marriage, she just wants a man to spank her, and good alpha male that he is, he's more than happy to oblige. Then he disappears, leaving a parting present of an unexpected pregnancy, leaving Becca to singlehandedly raise their son.
Many years later, Becca's in trouble and suddenly he reappears in her life, winning her trust and her love, (not to mention saving her life!) They pick up where they left off, kind of...but this time Zac has more to give. Lots of suspense, spanking and hot sex. A steamy spy romance not to be missed.
Renee's stories evoke a lot of different feelings in me and with this one I was excited, on edge, scared and emotional; in fact I ran a whole gamut of feelings in a few short hours.
Parker was brilliant and his unusual connection with Zac was unexpected but added so much to the story.
I enjoyed the fact that Becca knew what she wanted and was, mostly, happy to be in a DD relationship which she had craved for so long.
All the characters were well drawn and sympathetic and the end was lovely. The language was exceptional and the editing was immaculate.
A highly recommended book from a brilliant author.
Safe in His Arms is my first experience of Renee Rose's work and I will certainly be looking at her/his other published work.
This was a shortish story but boy did it pack a lot in. Covert military operatives, domestic discipline, kidnapping, anal sex, unexpected pregancies, regular sex, people presumed dead who aren't, spanking, ermmmm well I could go on but maybe you are starting to get the picture here?
The Male lead character, Zac, was an extremely Dominant Alpha and was extremely well portrayed. You could really sense his emotional growth as the story progressed.
The female lead, Becca, has spent the last few years raising her son on her own having conceived during a weekend fling with a marine who she was later informed had died in action.
Her son, Parker, is a real sweetie and over the years has started to come up with his own stories about the father he's never known. But are they all in his imagination?
This book was a bit of a departure for me as I don't usually go for the military/suspense type of book but even taking that into account what you actually get is a romance and, dare I say it, a HEA.

A fairly decent story with a black-ops operative. There is a paranormal element which creates the father-son relationship but it’s a bit too over the top. Read morePublished on 21 Mar. 2015 by Amazon Customer
Absolutely loved this story. I had been wary of reading it because I have a low tolerance for absentee fathers (even fictional ones) but the whole premise is deftly handled. Read morePublished on 11 Aug. 2014 by Etta Stark
