HASH(0x9c9cd6a8) out of 5 stars Good, easy read. 16 Jan. 2016

I enjoyed the journey of Reagan and Brock -- mainly because Brock fought so hard for Reagan's attention and tried again and again to prove to her that not everyone was going to be like her father. When her father breaks her heart at the most magical place in the world, Reagan becomes quite bitter when it comes to relationships, never truly believing in them. But then guy-friend Brock proves to her that some people will stick around...

Altogether, this was a good, easy read. There were some sentencing structure things that bothered me, personally, but that is simply style vs. style. I also was not the biggest fan in Reagan's brother telling her she needed to grow up and forgive her father. Sometimes there are just bridges that cannot be unburned...

The Safe Bet is a story of second chances, both in love and in life.

Reagan's father broke her heart as a child, Brock broke her heart as an adult. And she’s just not sure if she’s ready, or able, to forgive either one of them.

Reagan and Brock have been friends since childhood- they’ve been friends with benefits, they’ve had their ups and downs, and they’ve had more than their share of missed chances. But it’s been a decade since they last saw each other, after a tragic accident that claimed the life of Reagan’s best friend. And it was at this time the biggest miscommunication of their lives took place- which frustrated me to no end!

But Brock’s back in town, and with a little help from Reagan’s half-brother he’s set on claiming Reagan as his, once and for all. He’s not going to let her keep running and hiding.

Brock is not the only man in her life that Reagan has issues with. Her father dumped her and her mother when she was just a child, and since then they’ve had very little to do with each other. And good lord, who could blame her…in the flashbacks we saw of him I’d want nothing to with him either. But things are changing and dear old dad is spending more time with Jordan and his daughter, and Jordan wants Reagan to get over the past and let their dad have another chance.

I enjoyed this book. It had a lot of potential, but there were just a few things that held me back from really enjoying it. I liked Reagan’s feistiness, I liked her vulnerability. But she was also a little hard-headed, which isn’t always a good thing. Grown-up Brock is definitely swoon-worthy, and I liked how tenacious he was with wanting to get Reagan back. But I had some major issues with him during their college years that are hard to look past. These 2 had so much chemistry, and they had such a great relationship growing up, I really kind of hated seeing what went on during their college years. There was such a lack of communication between them and so many missed opportunities.

I do like the way things were resolved in the end, but it was almost too quick for me...I would have liked more.

***This book does have a few major editing errors that would pop out of nowhere that really interrupted the flow of the story at certain points- partial sentences, sentences misplaced, words missing. I don't normally call out things like this, but these were so glaring it was hard to look past them. Hopefully these issues were fixed in the final product.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. At eight years old, during a trip to Disney Land, Regan Anders father announces to her that he is leavign her and her mum, because his High School sweetheart has come back into his life and its always been her he has loved. The next day she meets Brock Anderson at school and also decides that she will never fall in love and she hates him. As time goes on and Brock becomes an integral part of her life she realizes she does love him, but also continually see saws from (not) being in a relationship, even though they most definitely are to driving him away because of her abandonment issues with her father.
Ten years later Brock is back in her life and is determined to finally have the girl he's always loved.

I enjoyed the story and it was well written, but i really didn't like Regan, yet during the book i understood her issue's during school years, but she never really stopped being that same immature, drama queen, and was still battling the same things when they meet up again, almost in their 30's. Her Brother whom she now lives with re-introduces them. Brock was just so sweet, hot and a lil bit alpha, for me it was him made the story ! Regan spent years resenting her father and shutting everyone out, and i pretty much want to kick her ass !! Thankfully Brock proceeded to literally do just that !!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Reagan was daddy's girl and content to be so. She thought the sun rose and set over her father. That changed one day when he left Reagan and her mother for someone else. She was 8. He left for his other family.

That day Reagan became another person. She trusted no one and let no one become close. Weeks after her father left, Brock moved to town. They hated each other on first sight...and became friends forever.

She, Brock and a friend or two go all through school and college together. Brock can never get her to commit to a relationship with him but she has only ever been with him. He even tries to make her jealous and she pushes him away although she is hurt by it.

Her friend Ivy dies in a car accident and this traumatizes Reagan. She goes into a depression refusing to see anyone, even Brock. Her mother decides to send her to her father......

Can Reagan start to deal with the traumas in her life and discover what she really wants?

I really loved this story! I read it all in one sitting. It is about 174 pages and the chapters switch from different points in her life, especially at first. It is clearly stated though and not confusing at all. It explains what has happened at that point and why she is feeling the way she is.

Her dad has some real issues he needs to address. I was so mad at the way he told Rae he was leaving, almost talking to an 8 year old like she is an adult and where he did it! No spoilers......

The one thing that bothered me is why did her mom send her to her father after him not having anything to do with her for 15-16 years?!?! I guess mom was at wits end but that is the last place I would have sent her!

And Brock? What a guy! He was supportive, caring and a hottie. I'll take one of him please!

One thing she finds out is that she has a brother 3 years older than her, Jordan. She and Jordan bond and become real family.

I would definitely recommend this story. Rae had a tough journey to finally find her happiness and it is well deserved.
HASH(0x9c9cdb88) out of 5 stars * Would you give second chances in life and love if you went through all Reagen went through 8 Mar. 2016

Would you give second chances in life and love if you went through all Reagen went through? I can't say I would. Here's my honest review.
Reagan was a "Daddy's Girl". That was until he abandoned her and her mother in an amusement park. My <3 broke when I read that part. What a low life. She was only 8 years old. And he left them for another family he had started.I don't understand how a man could do that to his daughter.Well he cant be a man.
From then on Reagan put an ice wall around her heart. She had a best friend Brock through high school and college. They were friends with benefits. She wouldn't admit feelings for him because of the wall of ice around her heart and he didn't want to admit feelings for her because he didn't want to commit. After a car accident kills Ivy, a friend of hers, her mother decides to send Reagan back to her father. Back to the man she hates the most for abandoning her and her mother all those years ago.Reagen becomes close with her brother. And who does he bring home one night, Brock. Can he break through her ice wall before its too late and will they finally admit what is going on between them.
Thats enough spoilers for me. If you want to see if they get together before its too late or if its too late for them period you will have to read the book.I love this book and will recommend it to my friends. Kudos to Shealy James !
