The instructions warned me to install the drivers FIRST - by putting the disc in the drive, and clicking the 'install drivers' option, and to only insert the easycap into the usb socket AFTER this was achieved - windows found the composite, and audio interface drivers in it's own memory, but i had to open the disc drive, and reinsert the disc when prompted, to let windows search for the 'video capture controller' driver, which it found on the disc, and installed in a few seconds - and success! - good picture, good sound, and using NCH Golden Videos freeware rather than the complicated ulead software that comes with the easycap, i began to transfer my collection of vhs movies and shows to the laptop...
great value, great results, and as the name says, EASY to use - 5/5
1. Put disc in
2. Plug it in (even though the instruction say don't but ignore the instruction)
3. Wait for it to search drivers. It will successfully find sound driver not the video card.
4. Go to "Drivers" folder on the disc
5. Click "Setup" (make sure it is still plugged in)
6. When it is finish it now found video driver
7. That it! You are all done. For software I recommended NCH Golden Videos because the software on the disc is old.
You can use VLC for full screen e.g. playing game consoles. To do this open VLC and click on "Media" and click on "Open Capture Device". For Video device click on USB 2.0 Grabber and for sound device click on Microphone (USB Audio Interface) and click play! This is useful for people who just want to watch it live and not record anything. Plus this is the only program I can find that let you watch it live full screen.
Overall I think this is very good and the quality is good but the sound is a bit crackly but for cheap price it is ok and you could overcome that by connecting the audio to line in using different cable. It will be easy for people with bit of computer knowledge to manually install drivers. The disc is messy and I don't mean physical mess on the disc I meant folders everywhere and in different place. The disc includes TWO software and they are Unlead software and the other one is called Honestech VHS to DVD. If you want Honestech then it on the root directory of the disc but if you want Unlead then you have to click on a folder called "AP2" which seems weird. I have choose four star because it is a good product but the disc need sorting out to stop confusing people.
I was using our 'workhorse' Dell PC running Windows XP. I'm an experienced computer user but the EasyCAP instructions are written in 'Chinglish' and for the most part are completely incomprehensible. They do say to install the USB driver from the enclosed CD before connecting the EasyCAP device to the USB port. There are no actual driver files on the CD, only a .exe program that says it will install them. Only it doesn't, for WinXP at least. It runs, prompts me to plug in the EasyCap, and then Windows says the device is not recognised and isn't working properly. So I deleted the driver and tried again six times but every time it didn't work.
Then I used Google to hunt for the WinXP driver, found one, and installed it. You need to take care because there are several websites asking for a credit card payment for the driver, and several others where my McAfee anti-virus warned me they were trying to install malware. Eventually I found an XP driver, or so I thought, and my PC recognised the EasyCAP device as a 'Syntek STK1150'. Then I installed the supplied video editing software but it couldn't detect any input from my VCR.Read more ›
