Having stuck in the past with the recognised makes for my walking gear direct from the shops, this was a bit of a leap in the dark, but worth a shot at the price advertised. However, the product details included full measurements which I found extremely useful in making my decision and other retailers should do the same as it would save a lot of returns.
Firstly, despite the delivery estimate of 2-3 weeks it arrived from Hamburg in 3 days! Top marks to the Retailer.
The Jacket is an American manufacture and is very well made and much lighter in weight than I expected which is extremely useful for layering up when it gets nippy. It is well cut and has features that I have not found on more expensive softshells such as the concealed hood in the collar and the zipped underarm vents which are not noticeable when the jacket is worn. I haven't tried it yet in driving rain but from the quality of the material quality I am confident it will perform.
The only niggly points from my point of view and they are pretty minor is that the Pockets zip open from the bottom which is the opposite of all jackets I have purchased and this may be the norm in the US. There are no inside pockets or a phone pocket, but there is a zipped pocket in the arm which is very useful for things such as a mobile and of course has the advantage of being accessible without undoing the jacket.
Overall I am extremely pleased with the Jacket and its on a par if not better than £100+ Jackets I have purchased in the past.
So the jacket is waterproof to a good extend, has a hood that hides away in the collar, has cuffs that tighten and a nice feece lining. The soft shell material is good looking and I am sure will wear well. The fit is good and the price represent very good value for money. Even the logo is well stitched in that nice, embroidered way that says "quality"
So what is the big downside? The pockets.
The zips are the wrong way round. Yes, the "wrong" way. To close they zip upwards. Now, who cares you say? Well this is very unnatural if you are in the UK and seems quite counter-intuitive to me. It also means that things can fall out of your pockets as you are trying to zip them up. The pockets are also just a tad smaller than I would like.
Such a shame as this exact jacket with larger pockets and the zips round the other way would be almost perfect.
