I honestly believe this is the first book to lay out not only the importance of re-evaluating which goals to keep and which to discard, but to actually lay out a step-by-step plan for doing so!
I particularly liked how thorough the process for evaluating past goals and achievements was... too often we don't take the time to notice that we have accomplished a large number of things that will help us to meet future goals. And if we don't notice that... we don't remember to take them off of our mental "to do list"... which can really weigh us down going in to the future.
It makes sense to get rid of old clothes that no longer serve our purposes.... it makes even more sense to go through our old plans and goals... setting aside to treasure those that served us well and are now complete, discarding those that no longer fit, and then having the room in our mental closet to focus on those we truly need and use on a daily basis to move forward.
I enjoyed this book and the process involved ... and I look forward to book 3 in this series!
There are specific exercises to make your plan 'strategic', rather than just another plan that has a low likelyhood of working. You'll find out how to identify specific action steps and learn about the importance of actually WRITING DOWN your goals. I really like the part about clearing out your mental attic before pursuing your goals and renegotiating previous goals and letting go of unfinished projects that no longer fit you.
If you want to get serious about setting the right goals and strategically accomplishing them, get this book.
John Lennon said: "Life is what happens while you're making other plans." But Katie Darden reverses that by revealing that a better life can result from focusing on a plan. The reality is that most people sort of drift through life, grabbing onto the odd opportunity here and there as it presents itself, but that's a passive approach that may, or may not, produce good outcomes. Darden lays out clearly how you can take charge of serendipity so that life, career, and relationships are in your control because you set goals and articulate clear steps to achieve them. Goals, followed by specific actions, are what drive profitable businesses and they are also the mantras of successful individuals. If your life, or the life of someone you know, has more ups and downs than a roller coaster, read this book, or gift it to him/her. Roller coasters are only fun at the fair.
By identifying your values, current status, and setting up desired goals this STRATEGIC GOAL PLANNING - Creating Targeted Goals will help you take action. Katie Darden is your personal coach in this series.
For anyone wishing to enrich their life, to learn to recognize their values, and to set milestones to achieve their goals, there is not a better guide available. Take action buy the whole series of books and you will find a new way of setting goals.
