This works well as a steamer, provided you do not expect to boil away too much water, as the riveted-in supporting legs are only about 21mm long. The advantage of being low is that one can then also stack more steamer rings, conventional or bamboo, on the top of the base pan holding the basket.

The bright stainless leaves of the basket are supple and fold in and out easily, and the edges do not feel too sharp. These features are both welcome improvements over some other styles of steamer basket. The holes in the leaves and base are small and many, so not even the smallest peas fall through, and yet the steam passes through everywhere with ease.

However the lifting handle is merely a dangling loop of thin stainless wire (like a weedy key-ring) threaded through a hole in the screw-in centre spigot and not the more substantial fixed handle shown in the Amazon illustration. A fork is a reasonable way to get hold of the ring and lift out the basket without scalding ones fingers. This awkward and potentially uncomfortable weakness loses it a star.

Very good. Fits in most pans so no need for a separate piece of electrical equipment. I had one of these years ago but it got mislaid so was pleased to find this one.

Not as nice as my previous Lakeland one because that had nice "balls" (!) on the bottom of legs whereas this cheaper one has simply cut metal rods as legs but "you get what you pay for".

east to use, will fit most pans, compacts back down to be stored back in box. veg were steamed nicely. is generally small so not suitable if making veg for family of 4 or more but for myself, hubby is fine. I use it to steam baby food such as potatoes carrots and brocolli. could be used for few portions of fish also.

This is the cheapest and easiest way to steam vegetables. Some people may think it can be only used closed but that's not correct as using it open it will hold more vegetables. I bought this to make 'marrons glacees' which is candied chestnuts but I am going to use it for many other things. Wonderful product!

I didn't realise that the specifications were the width when the item is retracted therefore it will only sit on the smallest pan possible and even then if overloaded the item falls in the pan and you get burned trying to retrieve it.

Did not fit any of my standard small or medium pans, only the largest. The 'feet' were set much wider than my previous model and so returned it. It also had a wee dent along the rim. Have reordered from another supplier so am hoping works better. Reviews from their users seem reassuring that theirs will fit all pans.
