Works great, manages to power the laptop ide hard drives fine, but for regular drives with ide you'll need to power it from a molex connector and for a sata hdd you'll need a sata power cable to power the hdd.

The device's IDE connector plugs directly into the drive's IDE socket but the edge of the device extends beyond the edge of the IDE socket as can be seen in the photo, which partially obscures the Molex power socket of the drive! All Molex plugs that I have come across have grip lugs and because the socket is partially obscured by the device, it is impossible to plug in the Molex plug without shaving off the grip lug on the device's side and even then it is a tight fit.

I have tried extending the IDE socket away from the drive by fitting a male-male converter to an IDE ribbon cable but it degraded the signal and did not work. Shaving off the grip lug on the Molex plug was the only solution in my case.

Other than that, it worked fine and with a scavenged old AT PSU, I was able to put my old DVD and HD drives to good use at a fraction of a converter kit.

Don't know that much about how these things work but It doesn't fit my sata hard drive either as another reviewer has stated. I have a sata 2.5 hard drive out of an old laptop but the connection is wrong. The image is given in such a way that the connections are hidden, not sure if that was intentional but it would be much more obvious to tell if it's the right connection or not.

I think I must have recieved the wrong product because it wont connect to the fujitsu hard drive.
The connector socket on the cable is to big to fit the plug/circuit board connection on the hard drive.
Quality is good and I'm sure it has a use for something though

Very useful adapter but be aware this only handles the data. You will need to supply the required power connections. The SATA connection emulates a system board connector so a sata data cable is required.

Excellent little product, does exactly what its designed to do, helped me clear down several old IDE hard drives. Motherboard manafacturers would do well taking note of the usefulness of such products, and possibly include them with the modern motherboards without an IDE slot.

Sadly didn't access the drive I wanted it to. I could hear drive spinning when the cable was connected, so it seemed like it may work, but there was no information being transferred to my screen. It wasn't a fault with the drive pick up because I had opened and checked that all was ok with mechanics of the device. It just would not read or transfer the data that was stored. I will look for another cable. TH

Worked first time to my old IDE hard drives... Set them up as master hard drives with caddies to make them removable and powered with internal leads off the power unit. Plugged the adapters into usb ports at rear .through back of casing.... just enough free cable to loop the usb connector into its port. Fine!
