Product Description

Review

One of these stories is as short as a fleeting thought, another seeks to explain God's gift to man of four score years and ten...In stories as short as these, the love between parent and child, siblings, friends and within communities is a melody, and the point at which the reader shares this intimacy is the unique note. A book to think about for the 9-plus reader. (The School Librarian)

I teach children out of school for medical or emotional reasons. Often they are lacking in confidence and would be too intimidated if asked to read something too long.
These short, short stories are perfect for shy and reluctant readers, especially as they can see the end from the beginning!!
They are well written and thought provoking.

A class of 6-8 year olds. A wet and windy, indoor playtime day. A slightly frazzled Headteacher doing "supply". And a book! And what a book! Three selections - the shortest of the short just to prove that you don't need to write a novel to grab your reader. This book epitomises the ZEN of teaching and learning - listen for that one hand clapping! Saved!

I'm in Year 6. We read this book in Group Reading sessions.

There are a variety of story types, some are funny, some scarey. The scarey ones were the most popular! I really enjoyed it and recommend this book.

I use this book from time to time with my Year 6's and previously with Year 4's. They love it. I did go through it when I first got it and circled the stories that I thought were better so that I only use those. Good stand by for any teacher.

I bought this because I was so impressed with the quality of his Arthur series that I was convinced that his talents would shine in a different genre. These stories are well written but there is probably a good reason why the idea of very short stories (ranging from a few sentences to a page in length) isn't tried more often. The result just isn't very interesting.

I pounced on this when I spotted it, on the strength of the author's name alone, but found it disappointing, How could someone produce such sublimely good books as the Arthur trilogy, Gatty's Tale, and Bracelet of Bones be happy to unleash something this ... well, it isn't totally atrocious, but neither is it of the sort of standard we've come to expect.

I have bought this book for a unit on fiction genre as it contains lots of short stories. Some if the stories are good, however some are a little strange. Overall though it does the job I want it to do.

My 10-yr old heard about this book at school, ordered it with her pocket money immediately, and pored over it. Loves it.
