Very useful for quick removal of material which would otherwise take a long time sanding. Tilting the tool slightly controls aggressiveness of the shaver which is easily learned. My only complaint is that Stanley Tools originally made spare blades available but no longer. Providing blades in a six-pack would really be appreciated and should make business sense for Stanley as well and would avoid a dulling blade in the middle of a subsequent job.

That's exclusively what I use it for and nothing more. I've tried to shape wood with this thing and it's not at all good at accomplishing that job. But as a tool for foam, this cannot be beat. The grip and is great and the rasp blade itself is held firmly in place. I found that the cutting head is also big enough to allow for consistent contours without individual scrape marks from each stroke decorating the surface. I highly recommend this tool; it is a key part of my design tool kit.

I've used the standard Surform tool for years for taking a little wood off of sticking doors before painting and mostly for plaster work. It does quick work on taking down plaster before going over it with sandpaper. This small tool is really handy for plaster walls that you can't get in with the larger tool.

I use this to carve foam sculptures. This is great to shave down larger areas ( use the Stanley Surform round blade for smaller details. I have chronic discomfort in my wrists, and because this tool can be used up or down (when used on foam) I didn't feel fatigue at all. It is light, strong and well made. A great buy.

It's just what I wanted to shape styrofoam sculptures. Not so great on wood, though. Tears it to shreds.
