JORG BUTTGEREITS COMMENTS FROM THE FOREWORD
More than 10 years ago I started touring sleazy little cinemas with a 16mm print of my film Nekromantik.
I got to see a lot of different countries that way.
Today a new generation can watch a 35mm blow-up print of Nekromantik on a big screen. Other things have changed too. I now do lectures in arthouses and universities., and in the film schools that turned me down when I was trying to go there to study 10 years ago.
It was always strange to see how people viewed the film, how intense their reactions were and still are towards this little movie that was made with no money at all (and no script either).
I earned myself a reputation the kind of reputation where people give you funny looks.
I doubt that a film like Nekromantik would be possible today. It would be impossible to find good people to work for nothing on a film as big, for a start. I know I wouldnt do it for free.
It is ironic that this book is published in Great Britain, where, because of censorship laws, most of my films are not available. Thanks to David Kerekes for at least telling you about them.

This book chronicles the films of director Jorg Buttgereit, focusing on Nekromantik, Nekromantik 2, Der Todesking (The Death King) and Schramm. The book is highly detailed, contains an enormous amount of photos and interviews with all the principals of these four low-budget German made films that have to be seen to be believed.
If you're a fan of ultra rare, post-modern horror and particularly want to know more about the director of a film so notorious the government of Germany threatened to confiscate and destroy every print of it...check this book out!
