After moving into a new house last year, there were GU10's everywhere. The kitchen had 5 which at 50 watts each = 250 watts, & that was just for the kitchen, so I wanted something that was cheaper to use.
These Sebson's are great value LED bulbs and have been reliable since installing them during December 2013. I initially purchased the 50 watt equivalent (380lm 2700k colour) but found them way too bright especially because the wide angle created too much glare. The colour of the light 2700k, matched the previous Halogen GU10's perfectly though. I then swapped them for the 240lm (2700k colour) but found these were not bright enough. This model (300lm 2900k colour) is a happy compromise. The brightness is just right (still brighter than standard Halogen 30 watts - probably matches 40/50 watt halogens) and the colour temperature is 2900k, so they are a little bit whiter than the others but not unnecessarily so and I soon got used to them. It's a shame they don't do these in the warmer 2700k colour though which would make them perfect. All credit to Sebson/Amazon for allowing me to swap them.
**** Less than 1 year later 2 or 3 of the 10 pack LED lights had blown - the center 2 LED's blow, then the unit starts to flicker before finally failing. *** After 2 years another 2 have blown so half of them have blown in 2 years, and for the limited amount they get used falls substantially short of the suggested 25,000 hours life. It seems I'm not the only one to have had the same issue with these lights , and for that reason i am replacing them with Philips instead...nb whilst Sebson were quick to contact me asking me to leave a positive review for a discount they were simply not interested when these failed and didn't want to know, although Amazon themselves were great.
**The replacement Philips Master MV lights, have since been thoroughly reliable, have less glare (less wide angle) and a better warmer colour at 2700k so as all but one of these Sebson's have failed in the same way, I've replaced them all with Philips **
But I ordered after reading some of the reviews and husband saying about changing over I went for the price initially as we are bit tight with money lol
Ok took a few days to arrive and that was on Amazon Prime BUT it does state that so that's ok The packaging was not brilliant via Amazon and could of been packed better
They arrived this morning and this evening hubby changed over the 8 halogen GU10 50watt bulbs in kitchen for the new ones I thought it wont be that good WRONG so wrong...
The light is bright crisp and clear its shocking Hubby who actually is like Scrooge a miserable old git couldn't stop singing the praises of these lights (And believe me he is hard to impress)
So lets take a recap 8 x 50watt halogens = 400watts NEW BULBS 8 x 3:5watts = 28watts total NO CONTEST
Light as I said is bright I could actually get away with taking down middle spotlight bar and just leaving the other four single down-lighters in on their own
My one regret is I did not video the old lighting in kitchen and then the new But will do when the next lot as I am about order more to change bathroom change bathroom
My advice go for it well worth it and you save in long run
I could understand one failing... perhaps two... but then a third and a fourth and you've entered 'nope' terittory. Some quick math says they're well short of the 25k hours the description mentions, closer to 7k based on how much I use them on an average day. Too soon to have had 40% of them fail!
Original review: Bought these back at the end of 2013 after SO many other reviews here moving house into a property that practically needed its own power station to light. 15 months on I've come back to buy more - not because they've gone but because I'm switching some pendant fittings to GU10 spots. All 10 of the original batch are still working flawlessly and being in my kitchen they've been used daily for the last 15 months. Couldn't fault, hence back for more!
Update - well it has now been just under two years since purchasing these bulbs and only now has the very first one gone, and they get used a lot as they are in the kitchen. I'd still recommend them, especially as they're £16 cheaper now than when they were bought.
