I needed a wireless room thermostat and timer, it needed to be digital and with 0.5 degree temperature increments. OK so you can spend a lot less to do that but this thing is just great.

Installation of the receiver - replacing my current boiler timer - was a bit harder than I expected. I was not expecting it to just fit onto the old base plate (you might be lucky) however I need an electrician mate to fit it as receiver is wider than the old installation and wires needed to be moved. Still, if you know what you are doing it's about an hours work to replace the back plate. The settings on the top switch are CH aux or both. Aux is the hot water. The other slider is auto, manual or off. The led around the lower swicth goes from red to green when it is paired with the thermostat, the upper switch flashes blue when it is calling for heat. It all looks very cool.

Setting up was much easier than I expected. Unfortunately there is no included instruction specifically for the receiver and it was not clearly explained that you need to press the reset button on the bottom for THREE seconds to get thing to pair with the thermostat. The photos in the instruction manual are almost idiot proof but we did get stuck at one point until we realised we needed to press two of the buttons simultaneously to get it to 'see' the internet gateway.

The little gateway that plugs into your router was completely painless to connect and worked straight away, I have not tested the range but is perfectly adequate for my installation.

The best thing about the whole product is the internet connectivity. I was expecting considerable pain to get this working but I was very pleasantly surprised to find it was simplicity itself.

Internet setup is easy, it does as advertised.

I'm a nerd with no electrics experience and managed to install it into my complex Yplan box box by studying some y plan wiring diagrams and working out what does what. Works fine.

Originally went for hive by British gas but was out off with only 4 time zones for them (I.e. 2 on periods a day) so went for this as it has 6.

Would get 5 stars but for:

1). Unfortunately despite manual making me think otherwise before I bought it, there's no way of having the thermostat thing always on which means you have to irritatingly touch it every time you want to know what the temperature is. Saves battery yes, but others manage to stay on all the time. Big annoying downer for me. would've not bought it if I knew but couldn't be bothered to return it now.

2) The app is awful, compared to the British gas hive one. Is not very intuitive or pretty and you can't just put the heating on "on" via your phone you have to manually put the temp up. The trouble with that is lets say you're mid morning and you realise you want it on all day if you then manually put the temp up it'll then get to the middle zone in the day and go back to normal. The manual only works for that chunk of time. Ironically the British gas hive would hav been better in this regard as it only has 2 on offs and it has the always on feature. Having said that this could be a plus as if you out it always on you'd then have to remember to put it off again.

3) following on from the bad app, it's annoying that once you change from say individual days to every day to weekdays/weekends any changes you make affect all three modes.

I purchased this as a replacement to my bar bones analogue controller that came with my boiler.

The main features are quite appropriate for this day and age. The setup instructions are quite simple and not too much technical expertise is necessary as it basically should replace your existing control setup for the remote outstation that you connect to the boiler/heater. Remember if you are not confident please get a competent person to fit it.

The programmable thermostat itself is wireless and can be fitted to a wall via a supplied bracket or used on a table, etc with a supplied stand. A thoughtful feature is that the controller is removable, it clips into the wall bracket and can be easily unclipped from it and then clipped into the stand. Handy if you desire a more sensitive control over your exact position in your residence.

So essentially the system works as follows, there is a outstation which you fit to your boiler via cabling, easy to do which acts as a demand module, it purely turns your boiler on and off when it receives a signal from the controller. Then there is the thermostatic controller, which is battery operated and wireless and is removable from its wall and stand bracket and is touch sensitive. It has a white text on the black screen just like in the pictures on his listing.

Lastly there is a gateway which is plugged into your router via an Ethernet cable, it acts as an Internet gateway/access to the thermostatic controller. Basically an access point to your Internet connection at home.

You can program the controller locally or via their web-portal or Android/IOS app. That beaing you can change/add time programs and set temperature set points, as well as putting your heating manually ON, OFF or in Automatic mode.
