It has been a while since I read a fantasy novel. Craig Saunders Rythe Awakes has got me excited about visiting this genre once again. This is book one of a trilogy and the first third of the novel certainly feels that way. After that the pace evens out and it is a joy to read. Saunders doesn't fall into the trap of dwarves and other familiar creatures. Instead we have wounded and scarred heroes, Beasts that suit up in crystal armour! (Brilliant!!), a group of brave knights called the Sard, an evil hierarchy and so much more. Like many fantasy tales, this one doesn't get bogged down with descriptions of everything seen. Instead, Saunders gives you enough to create that image and strong characterisation. I really enjoyed this. It's further proof that you don't need to spend a fortune with the big publishers to read a high quality book. Fans of epic fantasy should really check this out. 4.5 stars.
Well it certainly kept me awake ! Another fantastic read from Craig . The prose draws you in . The battle scene with the Rakhens in there underground tunnels was awesome. I read that part twice. And the rest was as you expect. Gripping stuff. Can't wait til the baddies get their come upance.
