About us
Solving challenges is the very foundation of who we are. After all, in the beginning, our founder, sea captain Robert Fergusson, didn’t particularly care about paint. He just wanted to keep his ship intact. That’s why, when he noticed that an accidental splash of fish oil had stopped the relentless spread of corrosion on his rusty metal deck, he immediately recognized it for what it was: A valuable solution.
The same passion that drove the Captain to spend his next few years creating the rust-preventative paint that still drives us today. When we see a problem, we work diligently until we’ve perfected a solution—which has led to some of the most cutting-edge, durable and innovative products in the industry. If you’ve got a surface you need to protect or a look you want to transform, you’ve come to the right place. We have a coating for every challenge. Welcome to Rust-Oleum, home of trusted quality—and powerful solutions—since 1921

After I had the reaction, I reached out to the company. They sent me the 'safety data sheet' which lists all of the dangerous chemicals. This should actually come with the product as your average consumer would not know to ask for this and might assume the product can't be very toxic since it is approved for indoor/ household use on the retail market. In this data sheet it states that "There are no known teratogens". However since it contains numerous suspected teratogens such as Xylene and Benzene (where there have been multiple medical studies showing evidence of teratogenic effects in animals & plenty of other studies linking Xylene to autism and neurological damage in children of pregnant mothers exposed to this), there should be a huge warning that pregnant or potentially pregnant women should not be anywhere close to this product or the area it was applied to for a week or so after it is applied. We have had to move out to our in-laws for a while and I'm terrified of going back to the house where these harmful VOCs are likely still circulating. Extremely devastated and disappointed with this product. Wish we could somehow go back in time. I think we will have to rip down the tiles and remodel the entire bathroom now since apparently these toxic solvents can 'off-gass' for years after application.

Try and not to cheat by putting it on very thick because after a few minutes it will run and gather so put on thinly even if 2 coats is needed, unfortunately I put it on too thick in one area and it had to be sanded when dry, the smell of the paint is awful and strong but the good news is it drys very quick even on the metal radiator also do not put too much paint on the brush as it drips badly and make sure you cover your floor. Here is my white radiator with 2 coats on.
