Product Description
Introducing the Tornado No Loss of Suction Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner from Russell Hobbs:
You simply know something is good when it comes with a guarantee for up to 3 years. It’s just one of the reassurances that comes with the new Tornado Upright Vacuum Cleaner from Russell Hobbs. That and the fact that it has a wealth of on-board tools, no bags to clog up or empty and 180 air watts of power to get your carpets and floors spotlessly clean.:
Easy to manoeuvre and with a dust capacity of 3 litres, you can get stuck into the housework with the minimum of effort. In fact that’s what Russell Hobbs products are all about, and because they’ve been simplifying domestic chores for 60 years you know that your bagless upright will make light work of the dustiest jobs.:
Eat my fluff!:
The 4 stage filtration system with HEPA filter traps tiny particles as you vacuum, freeing your room of dust and any mites that are in it, making it ideal for allergy sufferers. The clever extension tubes and attachments make getting crumbs, dust and hair out of the smallest corners really easy. And because it has a generous 3 litre dust bin you don’t have to empty it every few minutes.:
Pedal Power:
The pedal locks the base and upright parts of the cleaner together, for storage, and when you’re using the tools. To use the cleaner as an upright cleaner, just press the pedal down and sideways with your toe, ease the handle back, then take your toe off the pedal. You can also set it to a choice of levels using a simple slide function - this lets you vacuum a range of hard and carpeted floor surfaces. To lock the base and upright parts together again, push the handle forward, till it’s fully upright.

1 x Russell Hobbs 19290 Tornado NLS Upright Vac

I liked the structure of this vacuum and how it can convert from an upright cleaner to a hose version. All you have to do is switch where you insert the hose to control where the suction is. The hose attaches to a small brush or crevice tool that can clean out any nooks or right by the skirting boards. The small brush and the floor type settings for the upright make the transition from vaccing my carpeted living room to the tiled kitchen floor a breeze.
Lastly the clear bin makes you easily aware when it needs emptying, plus the process to do so is quick and simple. The instructions are succinct and uncomplicated plus the trouble shooting guide contains some handy tips if you run into problems. This vacuum makes a tedious household chore as painless as possible.
I like that it has an 8 metre lead, the dust collector is easily removed for emptying and it takes a while to fill in normal use. It is fairly light and thus easy to manoeuvre, and you get the normal superior performance you expect from an upright when doing large areas of carpet (not so good around the edges).
Taken overall this is a very good value model, which should serve you well for a number of years. If you have set your heart on a dyson, this will not satisfy you. If picking up crumbs is not that important to you this will do the job.
The cleaner was easy to set up following the enclosed instruction book. I got a little confused with how to adjust the hose when using the turbo brush for the first time, but once you know how to adjust it you are ok.
The first time I used the hoover it felt lightweight. However I wasn't feeling like that once I'd finished. Emptying the bin was easy. I took it to the dustbin and it opens via a flap at the bottom. Then I had to pull out the bits that didn't just fall out. My floors look as clean as any other vacuum cleaner I've used.
It can also work on laminate floors with the adjustable brush height helping here.
All-in-all pleased with this.
Things have changed since I last owned an upright vacuum. This is a lot smaller and lighter than those I remember so, while it doesn't have one of those innovative ball mechanisms, it's comparatively easy to manoeuvre or carry up and down the stairs. Further, I was impressed how cleverly it fits together; for example the handle detaches to become the extension for the various attachments. I have to say, though, that it wasn't entirely clear what was supposed to go where at first, so the first time I used it I had it blowing dust out the side, rather than into the bagless container.
I suppose the main consideration, when buying a vacuum, is whether it cleans. Not much point in something light and manoeuvrable if it doesn't do that (you may as well not bother). Well, truth is we don't have a lot of carpet in our house - only the stairs, landing, and master bedroom - and I've not tried it on the uncarpeted areas (which are usually cleaned by broom or mop), but it's performed adequately so far.
Given that we don't have much need for it, or much room for storing it, I'm happy to have this model rather than a larger or more expensive one, but I can't guarantee that it would be suitable for those with greater needs.
