Product Description

Hot and steamy :

Introducing the Auto Steam Pro from Russell Hobbs :

If building piles of ironing was an Olympic sport most of us would be going for gold. If you’re an ironing dodger, help is at hand thanks to the product designers at Russell Hobbs who are dedicated to making light work of even the most mundane domestic chores. :

The Auto Steam Pro is easy-to-handle and its size, design and capabilities include a non-stick ceramic soleplate that glides effortlessly through even stubborn creases. Wrinkles in denim, linen and cotton can be tackled by the iron’s automatic stream generation. It has an automatic steam function and its 320ml water tank can generate 45g of continuous steam - or a mega-120g shot of steam. As well as steam, the Auto Pro has dry, spray and burst functions and an easy-to-operate temperature dial so you’re firmly in control. :

Your ironing’s best friend :

That chore you once braced yourself for can actually be a pleasure as you’ll get through it in no time – imagine the satisfaction. It has an anti-drip feature so you won’t soak your clothing, floor or flex and, because it’s transparent, you can see how much water you’re putting into it so you know when to stop. It has an anti-calcium function and is self-cleaning so you don’t have to worry about ‘build-up’ compromising its power. :

For additional security, the iron has a non-slip heel so there’s no danger of it sliding out of the ironing board cradle. An extra long 3m power cord allows you to put your ironing board up anywhere you like so you can watch TV while you iron – or you could even take the ironing outdoors on glorious summer days.

I have to admit that I find ironing quite therapeutic and, let's be honest, it is a chore that most of us have to do at some point - so we may as well choose an iron which works well. My first impression on using this iron is that it is both lighter and has a slightly longer flex than my old iron. A quick perusal of the instruction booklet found it was well written, both informative and without jargon. The automatic steam function is excellent and makes the job quicker - there is a button allowing a blast of steam should you need it, but I found the automatic function really useful. Also, there was no annoying drip of water, which sometimes happened with my old iron. The iron has a non slip heel and sat safely when I put it on the ironing board and it had a good range of different heat settings. It had a nice, smooth action when I used it on the 'dry' setting too and the soleplate didn't stick. Obviously, it is new at the moment and if there are any problems I come across after using it over a period of time I will update this review to reflect that. However, I tackled a huge pile of ironing with it yesterday (having just returned from holiday and having plenty of washing to practice with!) and it seems good value for money, had all the functions I required and worked well.

This is a budget iron and although it has some good points, I wouldn't recommend it. It is small and light, which is useful for smaller items and for lack of arm ache after a lot of ironing. It has an auto-steam function which is handy. On the downside, the soleplate doesn't glide - the surface is somewhat 'sticky' and causes your ironing to wrinkle up if you iron back and forth - this irons crinkles in - not helpful! I also find it quite difficult to see how full the water reservoir is given the coloured plastic.

I've got better irons I'm afraid and some were the same price / cheaper so I couldn't suggest you buy this hand on heart. Sorry. It will do the job, but not the best product on the market like for like.

Russell Hobbs is a well trusted brand that produces well designed and well assembled products on a regular basis, this iron however only loosely fits into this category.

I has a nice comfortable handle making long ironing sessions a pleasure to do, but at the end of a week of using it i've already got a sticky black/brown stain near the tip of the plate, it's causing the iron to snag on clothing or leave a black mark on garments that i can't get out. I always follow the temperature guidelines for the garment i'm working on but no matter how many times I remove the patch on the plate it keeps coming back

Would I buy another russell hobbs? Yes; Would I buy one of these? Not unless they sort the temperature adjustments so it stops melting things (which i assume is what the black mark is from)

I bought this iron 2 days ago to replace a 15629 which is delightful for pristine results.
The base plate of the iron is sticky, wrinkles when you do a backward stroke.
Gave up ironing after one and a half shirts! I am so disappointed in its performance.
It will be returned to Morrisons Supermarket asap for refund.
My old iron is RH MODEL 12659...AND A BEAUTIFUL PERFORMER!

When this iron arrived, I liked the look of it. It was really light in weight so that was a bonus. The reservoir was easy to fill with water, using the cup provided. The Auto steam feature is a bonus too.It works very well with lightweight fabrics and equally as good with Heavyweight jeans. Thoroughly recommend this auto steam iron.

A lovely comfy iron to use, much lighter than my old one so another plus. I had no problems with the plate sticking, it glides over fabrics nice and smoothly and no dribbles ( unless I over filled it..my fault) So all in all a great iron at a good price.

I had high hopes for this product, as it ticks many of the boxes in what I look for in an iron, but there is a fatal flaw...

Good Points:
- Nice looking and stylish
- Comfortable to hold
- Controls easy to use (setting temperature, steam level)
- Cord is longer than most (2m) which means that it will stretch to the whole ironing board even if the power socket is not right next to it
- Not too heavy
- Large capacity water tank (320ml) which means less frequent filling - although it does at 320grams to the weight of course!
- Easy to fill water tank, and jug provided for the purpose
- Very quick to heat up to temperature owing to 2400w element (30 secs or less)

Bad points:
- One minor one: to fill the water tank you open a cover that flips forward. This is OK for filling, but if you like to empty leftover water (eg to avoid scale build-up) this requires some careful maipulation of the iron and can be somewhat awkward with a hot iron.
- One major one: the iron does not SLIDE over the clothes. The coating is "non-stick" but seems more reminiscent of the non-stick on a frying pan than the gleaming smooth surface of most irons. This may mean less chance of fabric sticking to an over-hot iron, but the matt surface just does not work for rapid ironing. This is not just my odd way of ironing - I asked 2 family members to try it, and they both had the same feedback.

I realise this is not a premium-priced iron (which range up to £50), but Russell Hobbs has made a seriously mis-step with this soleplate. For the price of this iron, I would go for a basic Philips iron, which I have always found to be reliable (and Which magazine agrees).
