5.0 out of 5 stars 102. Wild horses (2013 2CD+DVD edition)
By Scarlet Jupiter on 22 August 2015
"Runaway horses" arrived 2 years after Belinda Carlisle's 1987 "Heaven on earth" breakthrough album. Although it maintained her popularity, it did not reach that record's commercial peak. Apparently, there were disagreements regarding promotional tactics. It did not help either that US so-called music experts snubbed it at the time. Still, "Horses" sold very well worldwide, reaching gold, platinum and double platinum status in many markets. It spawned 6 hit singles (arguably all 10 songs could have been released as singles), an impressive accomplishment on its own, even more so considering the circumstances. The pop brilliance encountered on this record is unparalleled, that is why it is considered to be Belinda's magnum opus, a bona-fide record, a pop landmark. It is indeed all of the above. Her personal favourite song is included here ("Summer rain"), mine, too ("Vision of you"). A classic album like this certainly deserved a reissue, and the brilliantly remastered 2CD+DVD compensates for the wait. Featuring various edits and versions of the singles, as well as the videos to them, a brand new interview with BC, plus an extensive booklet with sleeve notes and rare photos, it is an absolute must-have for every Belinda fan, as well as for every pop music enthusiast. 1989 was a great year for pop music, "Runaway horses" is one of the reasons. Hop on and enjoy the ride!
