From my relatively short time running (the past 3 years) what I’ve found is that whatever the niggle, ailment or worry, someone has had it before! But searching for sensible, medically proven advice and information isn’t always as easy especially if you throw it out onto social media!! So what a joy to find such a well written and comprehensive guide for runners new and experienced alike. And written by a Doctor who runs too!! There is clear empathy in the writing and I really enjoyed the clear and chatty style mixed in with real runners feedback and comments - and they are real runners feedback because some are mine ! Superbly researched and approachable in style with great guidance - a true runners bible.

This book is a wonderful resource for runners of many different levels, whether you're just starting out or have more experience. Dr Juliet McGrattan writes in a style that makes the information totally understandable but also very engaging - initially I went straight to the sections that included areas I wished to look more into as they were specific to my own running, but I've now read from the beginning as she makes all areas so interesting, and let's face it, you can't learn 'too much'. The comments in it from other real life runners are also a lovely addition. I'll be recommending this book to others, it's great!

I've been running for over 8 years and have had more questions about running healthily than hot dinners in that time! Juliet does a fantastic job of setting out what each part of the body does, and then explaining relevant running information for it, and I now feel so much more informed and confident from having read this book than I have done in the past relying on Google searches and Facebook groups. This will be my go-to source of information whenever I have a niggle or health hiccup.

Dr Juliet has answered so many of the questions I would never dare to ask my own doctor; from questions about running when you are feeling unwell to Why do my balls ache when I run. This book is brilliant for male and female runners. It's informative, beautifully illustrated, and a joy to read.

Absolutely indispensable! This is the Bible, The Complete Works of Shakespeare, for runners. All the bodily changes that Dr McGrattan mentions, which take place when you run, are explained with clarity, lucidity, and reason. Well worth every penny, and should be advertised with the providers of Parkrun, 10km races, half marathons, marathons, and ultras.

the questions you’ve been probably asking yourself for years from why do you get the stitch through to how to deal with hot running conditions? It also covers the more serious health conditions that can be running related. A great running bible to have to hand and I’m sure I’ll be referring to it for years to come!
