Product Description

Synopsis

This is a book of newly-translated Rumi poems, by the pre-eminent Rumi poet Coleman Barks, to celebrate Rumi's 800th birthday in 2007, the Year of Rumi. The book will have 90 new poems, 82 of them never-before published in any form. Rumi's poetry, in addition to bridging cultures and religions, serves as a bridge to carry the reader into the interior silence and joy of the soul. His poems bridge the gap between conscious knowing and soul-deep understanding, bringing the reader into wholeness through the joy of his words; they are a bridge between the mystery of being human and the mystery of the divine - the Soul Bridge.

About the Author

Coleman Barks is a renowned poet and the bestselling author of The Essential Rumi, Rumi: The Big Red Book, The Soul of Rumi, Rumi: The Book of Love, and The Drowned Book. He was prominently featured in both of Bill Moyers' PBS television series on poetry, The Language of Life and Fooling with Words. He taught English and poetry at the University of Georgia for thirty years, and he now focuses on writing, readings, and performances.

I bought two additional copies of this as gifts because I find Coleman Barks translations of Rumi's poetry both profound and relevant today and wanted to share them with my friends.

The best of Sufi poetry - a must read. Rumi's poems still carry weight today and moreover, serve as a reminder that simplicity matters most.

If you love Rumi's 12th century poetry, there are many collections available on the market. Most of them contain the well-known,oft quoted poems. This litle book publishes for the first time some of Rumi's forgotten work.It is beautiful in its simplicity. The anthology itself could be easily slipped into a bg to carry around when your soul needs soothing.

This moving selection of poetry was the perfect gift for some newly married friends of mine; they loved it. The poetry is subtle yet extremely poignant, and brings to life the metaphors Rumi used so many years ago. The words and sentiments seem just as fresh and new now as they ever were, and I am now a huge fan who will be geoing my collection of Rumi's work. In a word, beautiful.

This is a book to spend time on daily, which is why my review is delayed, one or two of the poems a day suffice.
I have 3 left to read.
I think it is really up to the reader of these poems to form their own opinion, we each take different things from any experience. That they are of a spiritual nature goes without saying. I do find in them a considerable depth, the opening up of man to Grace, or by Grace, the reaching for God. If you meditate, especially pure silence meditation, you will find many verses helpfully inspire your practice.

Highly Recomend this book. Wonderfully written enjoyed reading very much. Read it slowly , dont rush ....... take time to savour what is written and think about it let your imagination take you to wonderful places. I found to be very relaxing thought prevoking reading, but thats just me!!! I loved the blue cover design too. I have several rumi books, but this has to be a favourite choice. I am known for talking a lot and writing alot but in this instance the writing and quality speaks for its self.

This book warrants a good cup of tea on a windy, rainy night curled under the duvet and absolute peace and tranquility. It's one of those reads which is so descriptive after each poem it leaves you questioning and imagining how it can be applied to you. Beautiful, truly outstanding.
