There are just too many unknowns while camping out in the dark of the night. This story starts benignly enough: cozy campfire, children safely tucked away in the camper, husband and wife playfully bantering with each other, until the clear night sky begins to cloud over and a strange foreboding pimples the flesh. With the thunder comes this eerie sense of a larger power at work, a supernatural force that can drive a man's weakness to the forefront, smothering his goodness with an inexplicable need to do evil.
I found this short story to be relentlessly gripping as each scene quickly led to an even more disturbing scene. If it had been a movie, I would have been peeking through my fingers at the screen, and even cringing away at certain points. This is an uncomfortable read that never lets the reader go; it just kind of pummels you with uneasy emotion, dread, and horror.
