The Velominati have captured the essence of Continental riding chic and distilled it for a grateful world. However, this is chic with a tough core (check out Rule 5 - and live by it). You need never wonder whether those pink shorts would look right on you, ever again - the answer to any question you might ever have had reside in this slender tome.
The kindle conversion however, is inexcusably dreadful - each page is an image, you can't change the font or zoom - as the default size is minuscule, that's a real problem
The book illustrates "The Rules" of Road Cycling - not the rules of racing, they are far less philosophically interesting - that have evolved over years and miles in the saddles. The illustrations are funny, full of 'in' cycling references, and very well observed.
The Rules are empirical - they are The Rules because the *are* the rules. There is no central body overseeing - the Velominati are merely collecting and curating the way things are in Road Cycling - and what a hoot. You'll be quoting "Rule 5!" to people within days.
A fantastic book to dip into again and again.
Its got some great rules to stick and abide to, you find yourself subconsciously doing a mental check before a ride, making sure you are abiding by "The Rules"!
Those who are giving a single star just don't get it,.... this book is a lot deeper then it first appears.
If this book is studied and thought through properly it will add to your cycling enjoyment.
Its a great entertaining read, and rule "V" has got me up many a hill in the pouring rain!!
