Social media as a topic area is well catered for if you're in B2C marketing, less so in B2B. I teach digital marketing and lead sessions for many global corporates on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Marketing [...] and will recommend this book to my delegates; it echoes many of the lessons I deliver. Buy and read with confidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Practical Advice 14 Dec. 2012
By Mary Monahan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
While this phenomenal little book may have been designed for the social media professional, it's also a great resource for people like me who are still figuring out the B2B social media world. The book is filled with very practical step-by-step advice that I could immediately apply to improve my B2B social media and networking skills. It is well-organized and brimming with real world examples that illustrate the 42 rules, starting with knowing your audience, leveraging key channels, and how to engage effectively. I first read it quickly so I could understand all the concepts in the book; now, I am going back to specific sections to apply them to my own social media marketing. I highly recommend this book!
5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it only if you want to really understand social media 2 May 2013
By Thomas M. Small - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
First, you should know that this review is being written by someone who isn't a social media guru, but I'm going to go ahead anyway as I suspect the social media guru population, while considerable, isn't enough to sustain an actively growing business. For my last mea culpa, I will also admit that I use Facebook only to keep tabs on Isabella, my adorable niece who lives in Wales. But maybe we should get back to business.

The tag line for the book, while a bit long, is a "just-the-facts" description and will help you form a plan to achieve your goals. If you did not find what you were looking for in the book, there are generous appendices that will guide you to what you want to find.

Last, the book is overwhelmingly well-written. Buy it.

Kudos: A very informative guide with real world examples and realistic suggestions for implementation. Recommended reading for CMO's to really understand what social media is and isn’t. All marketing practitioners would benefit from reading this to help formulate a workable strategy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic resource for social media marketing! 10 April 2013
By J. Brucker - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book is very comprehensive, well-written, and filled with great ideas and suggestions about using social media marketing. It really helps flesh out the social media landscape-- what channels are out there and what people use them for-- so that business-people can leverage the right channel to attract and engage customers. For example, it explains how different Facebook and LinkedIn are, and how people use one for personal vs for professional connections and information. The book also goes into detail about strategies and tactics for social media marketing campaigns. I keep referring back to this book to absorb and utilize the information further, so it really is a very good resource. The appendix is helpful as well, as is the addition of the website to update regularly as the social media landscape constantly changes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Educational Reference 16 April 2013
By Thomas M. Matys - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Whether it's social media marketing, or you are new to social media, this is the only book that I know of that explains why and how we use social media. It is a mandatory text for my e-learning, online, classes for college students. The new wave of online education is based on social learning, and this book answers the questions that students might have regarding online social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Linked-in, and more.

The book gives great justification to build online educational Team Wikis, which I have recently discovered is an excellent way for students to learn. This book solves the mystery regarding Wikis and all other social media tools that many of us are puzzled with, when we first start using it. Thus, it saves me the time, as an instructor, in having to take extra time in answering these common questions.

What I like most about this book is that the chapters are short but have powerful context. Student's are not intimidated with the reading assignments and enjoy the book. If you are a college instructor teaching marketing, then this is a must. If you are a college instructor teaching online classes, then this is a must. If you are just starting out to use social media online this is a must. In short, a great easy read, that is informative, educational, and well worth buying!
