Lovely romantic story with excellent writing as is usual with Louise Allen. Shame its a short novel with a rushed ending. This author is capable of so much more still remember former novels e.g. THE EARL'S INTENDED WIFE an excellent historical romance. why not more like this one?

Original storyline. Likeable characters. Realistic emotion. Best Regency romance I've read in ages. Struggled to put it down, it drew me in so much. I always like Louise Allen's books but even for her this was exceptionally good.

Award-winning author Louise Allen continues to prove to be one of historical romance’s most innovative and most gifted writers with her latest novel, From Ruin to Riches. Evocative, powerful and dramatic, From Ruin to Riches is an emotional tale of impossible desire, devastating secrets and everlasting love that is as difficult to resist as it is to forget.

Julia Prior had thought that she had shaken the stifling shackles of her guardians’ charity when she had eloped with the devastatingly handsome, Jonathan. On their way to Gretna Green, Julia gave in to temptation and succumbed to her betrothed’s skillful seduction. However, Julia soon realised that the man she had fallen madly in love with was not the Prince Charming she had imagined him to be, but a scoundrel with nefarious plans to seduce and discard her, leaving her alone, ruined and destitute. An angry Julia couldn’t believe that she’d been so easily duped by Jonathan. When an altercation with her seducer left her with blood on her hands, Julia realized that she had no other option but to flee the scene and to start afresh somewhere nobody could ever find her. But with no money or connections, the chances of making a new life for herself were looking decidedly slim – until she met a stranger who changed the course of her life forever: Will Hadfield, Lord Dereham.

Will had once been one of the Ton’s most eligible and most sought after bachelors, but when a devastating disease had taken hold of his body and left him at death’s door, he realised that he needed to find a bride capable of taking on the challenge of looking after his estate as soon as possible. When he came across a lonely and vulnerable Julia looking for shelter, Will was immediately intrigued by her.

I think Louise Allen must be being pressured to bring out books too quickly. Her well thought out and original plots remain, but the care and attention seems to be be diminishing.
Interesting topic and way of dealing with it, but it had the potential to be a lot better.

fairly interesting characters, and a decent plot, but too much hinges on the hero and especially the heroine not telling the truth, or the whole truth, about important things...sure, the book would have had to have other page fillers than all the confusion, resulting from omissions, but it would have been a better text...too many silly mistakes, foolish and illogical, for full enjoyment...too bad, it has possibilities...

This is a very engaging story. I was hooked from the first page- hopeless romantic that I am ! The main characters are extremely likeable and let's face it, there isn't anything to not love about Will !! On a realistic note, the book highlights the difficulties faced by women within the law which probably persisted well into the twentieth century !! Well done Ms Allen!

Another great read by Louise Allen. Interesting, likeable characters and rich story mixed with historical references. A trip into the harsher side of regency life particularly for those who fell foul of the law. Good insight into the supposed justice system.

I like this author. I'm keeping this book to read again in the future. This was an enjoyable story and better than most Mills and Boon books which I usually read and then pass on to a charity shop.
