I have always loved both rugby union and rugby league, union being my favourite. I have played and enjoyed the Rugby Challenge franchise, but was ultimately disappointed. I thought I would try RLL2, just for a new rugby gaming fix, and my low expectations were blown away. The gameplay is crisp and fast, it feels like you are controlling skilled athletes rather than the clumsy tanks of Rugby Challenge. AI teammates run great lines and support well, while the AI opponents are clever in attack, mixing it up with offloads, miss passes, chips, punts, grubber kicks and side-steps; the full works. You will concede lots of points. Furthermore, the AI defence is strong, they don't just all bunch up around the ball, they hold their line, and scramble well. Obviously the impressive AI on higher difficulties makes the difficulty overall greater than most other rugby games, providing lots of close and exciting games, rather than the endless white washing of feeble AI opponents as in Rugby Challenge and EA's.

The graphics are solid, but not amazing, but this suits me fine. There is a multitude of game options and a Career Mode that is leaps and bounds better than Rugby Challenge. Furthermore, the licensing is very impressive, with higher and lower leagues from England and Oceania, and a good number of International teams. The World Cup is good fun, and is more competitive than the real competition! (I.E Australia and New Zealand often get upset my teams like England, Fiji and Samoa). The customisation is terrific too, with an in depth player creator and editor, a team creator (including the ability to make your own kits) and of course editing squad line-ups and transfers.

A great game, hope there will be an updated version next year. Good to play the greatest game from my armchair, getting too old to play it for real. Well worth the extra cost. Ordered this game on 26 December 2013 at a very reasonable price, once the order had been placed amazingly the game was out of stock and I received repeated email from Amazon promising future delivery dates until I eventually received an email saying the game was no longer available. Thankfully, the same game was available on Amazon (via another supplier) at a more expensive price. Well done Amazon.
