********* Now a couple of weeks have passed although I stick by my review there is a thread that follows within the "Over pricing surely going to kill the launch" which further details areas of development regarding glitches and the more arcade like feel the game has. **********

I've held off for a few days so I could write a more detailed review and also allow time to get used to the new tactical options etc and see what impact they have on game play.

Graphically there has been a few tweaks but not much change from the original for the complexity of the many animations required, players going into contact, rucks and mauls, scrums etc it does enough to get you feeling your playing a solid game of rugby. Player likeness can be hit and miss some being excellent and others if you squint real hard could possibly pass but again a nice touch to be able to have in a game all the same.

Licensing has been stepped up another notch including the Lions Tour which I am currently playing through on Hard (currently the tour stands at 1-1!) This next point can not count against rugby challenge 2 but they were unable to secure the international licenses and like the first you can transfer the majority of the correct England players into the squad but there is still a lock down on some licenses meaning you can not fully authenticate all the teams (here's to a next gen release with full licensing, the game deserves it which is the only reason I touch on the subject)

Options to tweak how you want the game to play are again included and I have been playing with offloads set to low and this seems to help create a more northern hemisphere style game play, lots of forward work and phase ball. Again you can alter it to suite your game play style which is great.

The key thing with this game is patience, it might seem a bit of a mess to start with but it's definitely worth sticking with it.

I've previously had the Rugby league games made by tru blu and whilst they were good games they had lots of little flaws that spoiled the experience, so i wasn't entirely sure about this game but i've been waiting for a really good rugby game for a long time, and i'm pleased to say this is it.

The passing has been improved from Jonah Lomu Rugby, i bought the first game but was frustrated with the passing and not being able to keep the ball for any length of time. I'm glad to say though that now you can put a good passing game together without too much difficulty and 90% of the time the ball goes where you intend it to!

There are still some flaws, if you go anywhere near the touchline and a defender comes near you either your player will just run out with you having no control, or if a defender touches you again you will go out and have no way of stopping yourself. Occasionally the passing can let you down, drifting forward or going to no one, but it's about you being aware of where your players are as well.

Lineouts are fine, bit of a lottery but it's about getting the 'throwing bar' right in the middle to give yourself a good chance. Scrums you have a very small target on the power bar, if you hit the middle at any point you tend to win the scrum, it works quite well and you can win scrums against the head which is satisfying.

I know that simply better than the last version is hardly the basis of a good game review .But given the lack of any other rugby union titles this year it has to be .The game is a huge improvement on the last edition in terms of gameplay and is set up a lot better .The players are more intuitive and teams have individual tactics albeit done via sliders .you are able to leave rucks , engage mauls more readily and use the width of the field more effectively .i have began to use tactical play again as this edition actually allows for it .The issues are still graphics and a lack of dept in some modes , licensing makes things awkward but I get spoilt with FIFA and expect the same standard .I would recommend the game to anyone who loves sports games .it is a real attempt at a rugby game and I can't wait for the third one which will probably be brilliant .

This game is by far the best rugby game available on Xbox but it still has some major flaws. Firstly most of the international sides are not licensed and some of the players look very different. For example Toby Flood had black hair, clearly nothing like the real Floody. Secondly the advantage system is a complete joke, it is way too short and needs some serious attention. Finally the substitutes numbers always get completely messed up such as Owen Williams wearing 16 when you set him to 22. On the other hand there is a wide range of licensed clubs with some really good appearances such as; Danny Care, Chris Ashton, Joe Marler, Manu Tuilagi and Chris Robshaw. Also the contest feature at the ruck allows for a more realistic feel to the game.

To sum up it is a fantastic beginners game.
