As always with the announcement of a new release from Emma Chase I was excited to read this book. Moreover it’s the start of a series and if I’ve learned anything from her Legal Briefs series they just keep getting better the more you read. This book is all about main characters Olivia and Nicholas and is the first book in Emma’s Royally series.

Olivia is constantly struggling against the ever rising tide to keep her late mother’s coffee shop above water. She’s feisty and caring and is doing her upmost to make the best life for her sister. I felt sorry for Olivia throughout because she’s got a lot of expectation on her shoulders, from herself and her father. Then Nicholas walks is suave ass into her life and changes everything.

Nicholas and his upbringing are the antithesis of Olivia and hers. Where Oliva battles for every penny Nicholas comes from a life of unbridled privilege. Nick is in New York to retrieve his hell raising brother Henry and I’m already looking forward to reading Henry’s story. It definitely feels like he’s loosely based a Prince of our own.

Nicholas and Olivia share the narrative throughout the book which serves well because while both characters are so different their chemistry is so immediate that seeing both of their perspectives allows you to feel swept up without feeling like the story is moving too fast. Nick is often quite crass and at first really shows himself up. Olivia has more decorum than Nick at some points throughout. I loved that she was able to keep him on his toes and put him in his place when he needed it.

If you’ve enjoyed Emma’s books in the past or if you are fans of Christina Lauren’s series’ I am sure you will enjoy this. Royally Matched, the 2nd book in the series featuring Nicholas’ brother Prince Henry, is out in February.

This was pretty good to start with but my attention waned somewhere in the middle and wasn't really regained until the falling out at about 85%. I was even skipping the sex scenes...

I liked some of the secondary characters, the Queen for one. She was fun, especially the verbal sparring with Nicholas at times. Everyone else was kinda blah.

I'm not sure if I'll be reading the next book.

Royally Screwed is a funny, sexy, lighthearted read that provides the perfect escapism.

Royally Screwed is a funny, sexy, lighthearted read that provides the perfect escapism. I am in awe; totally enamored with this story of duty, love and what one is willing to sacrifice in the wake of finding that soul fulfilling happiness, even if it goes against everything you have been taught.

For Nicholas Pembroke being next in line to the throne comes with huge responsibility and a respect for royal tradition. Sowing wild royal oats is a perk that has a lingering sell by date when the Queen demands he soon find a wife born from nobility and from their birth home of Wessco.

Prince Henry, the 'spare' has been on a permanent bender since he took leave from the armed forces. Nicholas has been given the task to bring him home, along with attending some charity events on behalf of the Queen in New York.

Olivia is a hardworking coffee shop owner in Manhattan struggling to make ends meet. When a charismatic, good looking, drunk idiot propositions her to spend the night with him for $10,000 instead of biting his hand off, she throws pie in his face and asks him to leave. Nicholas, upon being sober realises his mistake and goes back to apologise. He is pleasantly surprised that she has no clue who he is.

Olivia can't help but be attracted to his honest arrogance, and it's not long before she can keep saying no to his advances, even knowing his stay is only for a short while.

From here the story really heats up with some incredibly hot scenes that are lighthearted and fun, but intimacy paves way to emotions and Olivia knows that no matter how close she gets, their time together is temporary.

This was, in every sense of the word, a modern fairytale and I really really love a fairytale.

We all know the story of Cinderella and whilst there was no transforming pumpkin or lost slipper, to me this book had a very Cinderella-esque feel to it.

Here we have the first book in a series which centers around a royal family. The main characters of this book being from two completely different worlds. Olivia, maker of pies in the struggling family business in New York and Nicholas, Playboy Prince and heir to the throne of an entirely believable, but fictional country. It's when Olivia and Nicholas meet that this book just kept getting better and better.

Initially I wasn't a huge fan of Nicholas and felt Olivia, despite not being from a life of privilege, had more class in her little finger than Nicholas had in his entirety. But together these two were so incredibly hot together. The sex scenes were particularly steamy.

I loved the fact that I was hooked in every way with this book, especially when I am easily distracted, but in this case it was the book that distracted me from every other aspect of my life. In other words, I just couldn't put it down.

This was my first book from Emma Chase and I have to say I am incredibly impressed with her talent in telling a story and creating such memorable characters that I am 100% certain it won't be my last.
