The Royal Wedding - The Official Album is a unique memento of one of the most significant events in Britain's modern history. Featuring every aspect of the occasion, the album includes the music--old and new--the readings and blessings, and of course the exchange of vows between Prince William and Catherine Middleton in the historic Abbey on the day itself. The music is provided by The Choir of Westminster Abbey, the London Chamber Orchestra, the State Trumpeters and the Trumpeters of the Central Band of the RAF.

A welcome addition to the 'usual players' was the presence of Paul Mealor whose 'Ubi caritas et amor' seemed the emotional highlight then as it does on this CD. But there is a lot of very beautiful choral music here (especially the Psalms settings by John Rutter). And who can resist the splendor of brass fanfares resounding throughout a cathedral? There is a decided warmth in the sound of the audience joining in the hymns sung by all concerned and in general this combination of the spoken words and the glorious British music is as grand as it gets. A worthy reminder of the elegance and gentility of the monarchy. Grady Harp, May 11.
This is a brilliant recording of all the music played on that Wedding Day including the new piece by John Rutter. As I was hearing (and seeing) the whole ceremony as it happened I hoped the recording would be as good. It really is superb and the CD is a must for lovers of British music and Crown Imperial makes you want to stand up and be proud.
The music chosen by the couple and Charles is magnificent and timeless, and this recording has captured it as well as any I have heard.
The fact that it is live is a real blessing. Also the fact that the recording had to be mastered within four hours of the end of the service. Thus less time was spent messing around with it. This comes over clearly in the end result. It is fresh and vibrant.
The organ is clear and deep and the trumpets soaring but not harsh. The choir is really good considering it is all live - no re-takes here! The odd cough and dropped book adds to the atmosphere, and the acoustic of Westminster Abbey is wonderful.
I have resorted to buying largely SACD's these days inorder to get a decent sound. But this disc bucks the trend of poor quality, over-worked sound on standard CD.
You will be hard pressed to find better recordings of "I was glad", "Crown Imperial", "This is the day" and "Ubi caritas". The fanfares are a bonus and the hymns are all enjoyable. Even "The national anthem", with its introduction written specially for the wedding, is worth a regular playing if only for the lovely organ part growling away under the rest of the music.
If you like good music well recorded then this disc is for you.
