Again, we see Arkus change into a bold hero (although he still disapproves of being called such). Even when his quest requires that he assist Prine Kellemar (the royal pain), Arkus agrees. He eventually goes from helping reluctantly, to actually caring (somewhat; he'd never admit it though).
This sequel to My Sparkling Misfortune was every bit as enthralling as its predecessor. The humor was just as vibrant as ever, and the novel length was considerably longer. I was sad that Jarvi wasn't really in the book (except for the ending) but the story was outstanding nonetheless!
Unfortunately, the grammatical errors were still present and still quite severe. When I began reading the first book, I very nearly stopped reading because of all the errors, and even had the notion that this was a self-published piece. It is a pity to see such surface errors sully the true magnificence of the story beneath.
The plot was set up perfectly with all sorts of exciting twists and turns (although Cassandra's secret was obvious from the first time Arkus met her - but maybe that was just me. Anyone else?). I only wish there were more books in the series. However, I suppose it wouldn't work out as well, considering that the plot will likely become much different. I won't say any more about that, though. Read it for yourself! You won't be disappointed (unless your pet peeve for poorly edited works is stronger than mine). Thank you once more, Laura Lond, for another engaging, lighthearted, and splendid story!
This book is five out of five stars!
The story was just as engaging as the first book and I loved Arkus' humor and the various situations he found himself in. And I got to learn more about the world he lived in while witnessing his subtle transformation. Before reading the story I was worried about the introduction of a new main character that would be traveling with them. I often don't like it when authors introduce characters like this, b/c I often end up finding the character unlikeable somehow, or stealing too much spotlight from the main character. I'm happy to say those issues never materialized in this book, and I thoroughly enjoyed Arkus' traveling companion.
I didn't want to put the book down and read it through in two days. There was a bit more violence in this book than I remember being in book 1 (someone loses a head at one point), but it is by no means gory or excessive. But parents may want to pre-read the story if they plan to have a child under 12 or 13 reading it.
And though I purchased the ebook, I probably will still purchase the print version because I really enjoyed the drawings that were included in the first book and hope this new volume has some really nice ones as well. I very rarely have ever purchased two copies of the same book (to have a print and electronic copy), so I can't think of a higher endorsement for this book. I can't wait for the next installment in this series!
