Roy Prosper, a geologist was traveling alone in a car in Africa late one moonless night when he encountered a UFO, in the form of a pulsing white globe which suddenly appeared at his window as he drove at 100 miles an hour on a dead straight road. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up as he sensed the globe examining him. After a minute or two it shot off ahead, leaving his car as though it were standing, and made several impossible left angle and right angle turns before returning to take up a position at the other front window. Eventually, he says, the pulsing entity "lost interest in me" and shot straight up and was lost to view.
This encounter triggered Prosper's interest in galactic travel. He says that as science has advanced, the prospect of interplanetary movement has become more feasible. Recent discoveries of "habitable" planets have brought the possibility even closer.
In fact the credible Mars One project plans to establish a human settlement on Mars in 2023. Every two years after that a new crew will join the settlement. Mars One "will involve mankind as the mission's audience, creating a worldwide media event around the first manned flight to and settlement on Mars."
As a geologist, Prosper is acutely aware of the perils of earthquakes, tectonic shifts, the impact of meteorites--like the one which recently exploded over Russia, causing many fatalities -- and the triggering of volcanic eruptions beneath the sea bed which launch destructive tsunamis
Most of the Earth is covered by oceans and only one percent of the land surface is populated.
With humanity so vulnerable, it is logical that we should seek our future elsewhere. Thus was born Roy Prosper's impressive work, the first trilogy about settlers from Earth pioneering in three "habitable planets"--new worlds with unique hazards and advantages.
The jewel in the crown is Optima, a wondrous world of great Natural beauty, where the supernatural is ever present in both the positive and negative sense, and where prehistoric beasts still roam.
Perhaps Optima is the next stage in human and animal evolution, where life continues to thrive and expand and explore new levels of existence.
Roy Prosper lives in California. He is unmarried. He says: "Perhaps that is why my Strang series is full of wonderful, beautiful and talented women."
